ECV Anterior Placenta

I'm about 29 weeks with a stubborn breech/transverse baby. Even though it's early, he's never been head-down. My OB said if still this way at 36 weeks, they'd offer ECV vs. c-section. I couldn't get a feel for if they'd push for ECV first or if the choice will totally be up to me. One concern I have about the ECV is my anterior placenta. I only learned from reading online that anterior placenta could make ECV more risky? My OB knows I have one, but didn't comment on it during this discussion. I also know that my placenta is completely covering the front. It's not low, but it just seems to be covering everything, from what the sonographer showed me. I don't know if my OB has that much detail about it.

Anyone else have insight? Anyone not a candidate for ECV due to placental position? I know it's early, but I want to know all my options/risks/questions to ask when the time comes.

  • I wouldn’t even worry about this at this point. You’re still early enough for baby to flip and turn every day. I’m surprised an obgyn would even mention this at 29 weeks honestly. Maybe look into spinning babies if you’re concerned.

Also I’m assuming you mean he’s never been head down? Because breech is head up. And fwiw, my second was the same way and flipped head down right before my u/s at 37 weeks to check position, and I had a normal vaginal delivery with him.

  • Oops, yes, never been head down! And thanks. I know it's very early. I'm doing mild spinning babies stuff, but waiting on the more aggressive techniques.
  • @marcap123 it’s been a while since I’ve looked at spinning babies but I think a lot of it can be started as soon as 29/30 weeks.
