Got okayed to run at 32 weeks?

Does this sound right to anyone? 
I went to the obgyn today, I had to see another doctor since mine wasn’t available this week, first time seeing this one. 
She asked if I did exercise, as she was concerned about my weight. I’ve gained about 30 lbs. :/
I told her I’ve been doing kettle bells on and off and regular yoga and walking, but nothing intense.
I mentioned I wanted to start running again after baby but I haven’t ran since before pregnancy.
She told me I could start running now if I want to. At 32 weeks…I even had her clarify. 
I’d love to, but like that doesn’t sound safe lol anyone have the doctor approve exercise this late?

  • That does sound odd. Usually you can continue doing an exercise you were already doing as long as it feels good, but starting a high impact exercise like running sounds like a bad idea. Also, 30 lbs is not that much baby weight to have put on, so I’d follow up with your regular doctor.

  • My thought is that women run marathons in their 3rd trimester.  You obviously won't be running too fast or for too long at this point, but if you do a light jog/run (jog 1 min walk 2) its not going to be bad, as long as you are comfortable.  
  • I’d also heard that continued exercise is okay. You could also do brisk walks if you’re uncomfortable starting up running. I’m 37+ weeks and just walking is getting hard, so I’ve been trying to not overdo it l!!

    And regarding the 30 lb gain - that sounds normal to me! (Ive gained like 33 lbs so far!) But I’m sure your Dr. knows best :)
  • Thanks all! Discussed with my regular doctor and she agrees to just continue walking and yoga like I’ve been doing and not do anything extra like running. She’s not concerned about my weight at all, just this other doctor was for some reason. I won’t be seeing this other doctor anymore anyways.
