This is a place for first time mom's to ask questions to those who have been there. Also, let's use this for moms to ask those with more kids about transitions and such (like the transition from one to two, or two to three, etc..)
What are some other pregnancy apps that STMs found helpful in the past? Or online resources you really liked?
I found educating myself about the topics in parenting that were important to me was helpful. I wanted to know all I could about safety stuff like safe sleep, car seats, newborn screenings, etc. I went to reputable resources to do that. It greatly reduced post partum anxiety for me.
@youcanhavemanhattan with my first, I spent a lot of time looking for/reading positive birth stories. You hear so many horror stories that it’s nice to hear other ones!
If you’re interested in a natural birth (or a birth with more natural elements), Ina May’s guide to childbirth was great. Starts out with positive birth stories and basically informs about how our bodies are built for this! — at times I found it a bit guilt-trippy, so go in with an open mind, take what you like and leave the rest.
I read “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” and did a lot of online research on specific things I was wondering about. The only other app I used last time was Flo and it tracked baby’s growth and had some nice insights and common questions answered by gynecologists and pediatricians.
I like Ovia Pregnancy app. They have 4 themes of baby sizes and really helpful articles at least once a week with which week you're on and what to expect. I also just Google the crap out of everything that went through my head.

I really liked reading “Expecting Better”- written by a statistician and she breaks down all of the data around questions is coffee safe? How much? And more complex ones like the tests done later in pregnancy and the risk/benefits of those that are optional. doesn’t tell you what to do or not; just gives the data and breaks it down, talks about her experience and choices. It helped settle my anxiety a LOT reading it!
After baby is here The Wonder Weeks app is by far my favorite and helped me understand the brain leaps and developments so much better! Made me feel less crazy in the sleep regressions haha
@mama925 oh yes wonder weeks is amazing! I bought the book and it's 100% better than the app. Well I like the app because it actually tells me where baby is at instead of having to track it manually. The book goes into a lot more detail and gives more games to play with them.
Any tips on doing a solo 16 hour road trip ? I won’t be stopping to sleep overnight somewhere and I’ve done the drive before. But never while pregnant. I hopefully will be 13 weeks pregnant at the time of the trip so I have no idea how I’ll be feeling.

Do you have any other children or will it only be you?
What about books/apps/resources for First Time Dads? They don’t really feel what we are feeling as our body changes. So I was looking for something that would help him feel part of this process as well.
@babymac4321 I'd just stop every 2 hours to stretch and walk a bit. I'm not a rest stop person, I stick to places like McDonald's or other fast food restaurants to make it not as known that I'm traveling. Rest stops give me the creeps.
@babymac4321 you are a braver woman than I- I can barely go 3 hours without getting tired while driving- and that’s NOT when I’m pregnant!
I agree with the multiple stops at fast food places, and I’ve def taken cat naps in those parking lots during long drives. Otherwise I’d guess all the classic travel stuff applies: great podcast/ audio book, favorite snacks, etc.
