Team blue/pink/green: should find out this week with nipt results
Upcoming Appointments: 7/18 for first ultrasound
How are you feeling?: great, a little more tired lately, but overall good.
Rants/Raves: we are making great progress on home projects and decluttering. It’s making me so happy!
Questions:
GTKY - What is your favorite fast food restaurant? Might be an UO but we don’t eat traditional fast food, it really is bad for you. Sorry if that offends anyone. But quick type restaurant would be pizza.
Upcoming Appointments: Ultrasound today! I’m going to see if they are able to peek at the gender today too!!
How are you feeling?: like absolute garbage lol still nauseated and exhausted with no end in sight.
Rants/Raves: really being intentional and soaking up the 1:1 time with my toddler while it’s just him still!
Questions:
GTKY - What is your favorite fast food restaurant? I loath fast food it never tastes that good and make me feel awful lol but if we are doing a road trip and have to stop I always opt for a vegetarian subway sub!
How are you feeling?: hot garbage. This is 100% the last time I’ll be pregnant, 3 is enough for me
Rants/Raves: My grandmother passed away Friday afternoon and my dads side is semi dysfunctional so I feel like my mom and I have taken the brunt of planning. She was 94 and told us last week she was tired and wanted to be with my grandpa, so it wasn’t a surprise at all. But pregnancy hormones + death suck, and we didn’t plan on announcing but I definitely have a bloat/bump that’s noticeable so we’ll see
Questions: we are looking at a mini crib this time around due to space—any suggestions? We have a halo bassinet we love and will use until we can’t
GTKY - What is your favorite fast food restaurant?I try super hard to be healthy BUT chick-fil-a is my downfall 😩
Upcoming Appointments: OB appt on the 26th and MFM on the 28th
How are you feeling?: Our NIPT came back low risk and the NT scan looked good. Small bits of relief. But still nervous because the issues our daughter had wouldn't be picked up on NIPT. So will hopefully feel a bit better after the anatomy scan.
Rants/Raves: My daughter is thankfully feeling better after having COVID. She had a high temp especially one night and was mumbling and not being herself. We ended up calling urgent care and asking for advice because it didn't seem like her temp was coming down. It finally did thankfully and so we didn't have to take her in, but it was a scary mom moment. Fortunately her fever fully went away after like 4 days and she tested negative and none of the rest of us got it, so we were able to still make our vacation since it was past her quarantine period. We had a good time at the beach, but she is in her fun 3 year old fit throwing phase. Whoever said 2 was the worst age must not have had a 3 year old ever. Both of my kids have been way worse at age 3!
Questions:
GTKY - What is your favorite fast food restaurant? I like Chick-Fil-A for breakfast and I like Mcdonalds because I love their buffalo sauce. I know I shouldn't eat it, but it is what it is.
@tryingktogku I hope they are able to look at the gender for you today!
@bwow615 I mean, I’m not offended, but I think it’s a gross overstatement to say “it’s really bad for you.” And I also don’t agree with food shaming. Not everyone has access to organic grocery stores, and sometimes a $1 McD’s cheeseburger is a less expensive option than fresh produce.
@footdrbritt so sorry about your grandma. Even when it’s expected, it’s still hard.
@sparklingdiamond glad your NIPT all came back low risk. This was my first pregnancy doing a NIPT, and was surprised to see all it tested for was Trisomies 21, 18, and 13.
EDD / Weeks + Days: 1.8 / 14w1d
Baby is the size of a(n): troll doll
Team: blue 💙
Upcoming Appointments: midwife appt 7/22
How are you feeling?: other than being exhausted from working three 12-hour night shifts this weekend, I’m physically feeling well
Rants/Raves: I’ll spare you all the TW details, but I had a horrible weekend at work. Once the adrenaline of the event wore off and everyone left OR, I started crying hysterically.
GTKY - Jimmy Johns! Their Vito with the Italian meats is so good. I’ve had it twice since becoming pregnant, I just throw the meat in the microwave for a few seconds.
@daffodil_shoe thank you for saying that, it articulated my thoughts as well! From Sept-June I work in video for live performance (an hour away from home too), so my dinner options get extremely limited at 11:30 at night. Sometimes you just make due, and sometimes hey, guilty pleasures. It’s a balance.
@footdrbritt I wish you rest, peace and healing. Grief is always grief no matter the circumstances.
@tryingktogku fingers crossed for your ultrasound! Hope they can peek gender for you
EDD / Weeks + Days: 1/24 // 11w6d
Baby is the size of a(n): plum
Team blue/pink/green: still tbd
Upcoming Appointments: Tomorrow!! I’m so excited to see another peek at lil bean. Doing labs and screenings as well (I believe!)
How are you feeling?: Very, glacially slowly improving. It may sound strange but I’m hoping tomorrows labs might point to something that needs supplemented. I’m just unbelievably tired especially after eating. The nausea is lessening, but still miserable without zofran—I try to see if I can go without every other day.
Rants/Raves: it’s going to sound so silly, but last night was the first time in maybe a week and a half that I actually slept. One of my dogs is an Aussie/border collie mix, so he gets really anxious when we deviate from routine, and he’s been crying at me to get up early when I need to sleep more. Just proud of my good boy for finally getting the hint that momma needs sleep (because I sure won’t be getting it later!)
Questions: I think there’s still plenty of time, but I’ve had mil and a friend ask about a baby shower. I know a few others have mentioned being unsure what to do. I’m a ftm so I’d like to have one, but no one lives in the same state. We’re in Michigan, my family in southern Ohio, MiL bil and sil in California, aunts and cousins spread everywhere in between. I’m not sure I want to do the zoom thing either; it just feels hyper center of attention more than in person & I trend introverted anyway. If we did do an in person, there’s maybe 10 people who could swing it, and that’s counting the ones with a 3-hour drive. Just not sure how to do something inclusive that doesn’t make me uncomfortable. I’ve heard it’s frowned upon to plan your own, too, but I sincerely don’t know that anyone would think to ask or help either. I’ve gone on much too long, it’s just sort of bumming me out to think about it. (If I missed a thread for this, please let me know!)
GTKY - What is your favorite fast food restaurant? I do try to curb not just fast food, but eating out in general. Holdover from childhood habits, my mother used to order/pick up cheap food all the time growing up. It’s hard to relearn old habits sometimes, even after so many years. Lately I find myself with cravings for French fries, maybe because of the carbs? Arbys crinkle cut ones have been my vice so far, but limiting to once every week or two.
Upcoming Appointments: first visit with a midwife on 7/19, excited to transfer!
How are you feeling?: Latest symptom has been more severe indigestion - burning sensation in my stomach which luckily (?) hasn’t travelled up my esophagus yet. Yesterday it was a peach that did it and now I’m kinda scared to eat peaches again.
Rants/Raves: DH has been amazing since day one of this pregnancy. We also have a major remodeling happening on our property and he’s balancing all these big things so gracefully. 💜
Questions: None this week.
GTKY - What is your favorite fast food restaurant? DH and I have a couple fast food traditions: McGriddles when we leave for road trips and Taco Bell (Crunchwrap for me, always) when we’re coming home from a pool party or long day with family.
How are you feeling?: riddled with anxiety whilst awaiting my NT and blood work results. It's consuming me. My husband keeps telling me everything is fine but I super stressed.
Rants/Raves: why aren't weekends longer!
Questions:
GTKY - What is your favorite fast food restaurant?
@daffodil_shoe I’m not shaming. No judgement, personal choice and decision. I am not perfect, used to eat fast food quite often, I know how certain foods make me feel. And I now make choices based off of that.
Upcoming Appointments: ultrasound today for check-in as I’ve had some spotting, EFTS on Thursday and midwife next Monday
How are you feeling?: so tired! Nausea has gone down thank goodness but I’m dying for naps
Rants/Raves: I work in a fast paced environment with high performers so managing the Canadian health care system that is so overloaded has been a challenge as I’m not a patient person. I know everyone is doing their best and COVID/baby boom isn’t helping but I just wish they could turn bloodwork and ultrasound results around faster at my midwife clinic. Right now it’s taking 3-4 days for them to call me back with results.
Questions: Anyone go on a cruise while pregnant? I’m heading on one at 20weeks and not sure if I should bring anything extra or if things might impact me more.
GTKY - What is your favorite fast food restaurant? I’ve been craving Thai food a lot lately so getting curry with lots of veggies and limited rice to try to make it a bit healthier lol.
@bwow615 there is a huge difference between “I don’t eat fast food because it doesn’t make me feel good” and announcing to everyone “it is really bad for you.” That literally is shaming everyone who consumes fast food.
@daffodil_shoe I’m sorry you feel that way, and I made you feel shamed. That is not what I intended. In my original post I said I didn’t want to offend anyone. It was a gtky question and I was answering it honestly. My life and my relationships have been transformed because we have chosen to focus on our diets. Again it was a gtky question, I think this back and forth on the topic can probably end here.
@cc_clark perhaps your MIL can plan something? You can also do something where everyone can get involved by sending well wishes through an online card and then maybe just chipping in for an Amazon grift card. I don’t think it needs to be a lot of pressure and people care more about sending well wishes
@footdrbritt I am so sorry for your loss. Sending hugs 💜
@tryingktogku I used to have a Subway in my college dorm building and Veggie subs were the best!! I used to say extra extra pickles just to see how many they'd pile on there. FWIW, my US tech says very rarely can she get a good "between the legs" shot before 16w. But, I also think her US machine is kinda crappy - I used to get waaaay better pics from the old practice 😅.
@daffodil_shoe I'm so sorry for your crappy weekend. I hope the week turns around for you.
EDD / Weeks + Days: 1-14, 13+2
Baby is the size of a(n): lemon?
Team blue/pink/green: still unknown
Upcoming Appointments: not until Aug 4th
How are you feeling?: still pretty good. Hoping that elusive second tri energy will kick in any day now.
Rants/Raves: Well we told DD about our pregnancy last Thursday (at Jimmy John's, @daffodil_shoe 😆). She was so so excited, so I'm thankful for that. We asked her if we should tell the rest of the family and she said she wanted to keep it a secret. So, the next morning she told the babysitter. And also my mom. 🙄 so word's out, I guess! I haven't told anybody at work, yet, and probably won't for a bit here.
Questions: NATM
GTKY - What is your favorite fast food restaurant?
I love Jimmy John's veggie sandwich. I also like Chipotle! MH doesn't eat meat or dairy (and I also don't eat much meat) so most burger chains are out for us. For breakfast, it's definitely my local bagel chain.
@sparklingdiamond hopefully as baby grows your anxieties about their health declines! Can you opt to pay for one of the more info with tests to rule out exactly what you are afraid of?
@cc_c@cc_clark my best friend planned mine with my first but she lives out of town so I kind of actually planned my own (and as a control freak enjoyed it lol) but anyone who was invited/ came didn’t know! So maybe you could plan your own through your mom or MIL or cousin or friend …
@tryingktogku I'm not sure actually. They picked up the mosaic trisomy 15 on an amnio and I really don't want to have to go through one again if I don't have to. That was not a fun experience. The CDH they picked up on ultrasound pretty early. Things looked okay at the NT scan, but I still get nervous. I am going to ask my doctor if there is anything else that can test for it specifically
@tryingktogku yeah it turns out I am good at keeping secrets, DD not so much. She was playing with her little cousin and casually said "oh, my mommy has a baby in her tummy". My mom somehow heard this from the next room and ran in like "wait what??" LOL. I still have to tell all my friends and coworkers but at least my whole family knows and it required very little effort on my part. 👍
How are you feeling?: The same, maybe a little less hormonal but still generally “off,” sore boobs, acne like a freaking 13-year-old.
Rants/Raves: Rant - I went to the hair salon yesterday hoping to boost my mood, and rather than give me the cut and color I asked for (lighter blonde, blunt bob, not a confusing request, right?), she kept me deep brunette and trimmed my hair into a pageboy that swoops in at the bottom and was longer in the back. Ruined my day. I had to fix it all myself when I got home. $400 down the drain and definitely going back to always doing my own hair.
Questions: Anyone else grappling with where to do their shower? My family lives three hours away, DH’s family is mostly nearby, but I don’t want to do my shower in a place where only his family can make it. I need every single one of my crazy cousins and amazing aunts right now and I’m thinking I’ll have to scout out a random place that’s more centrally located.
GTKY - What is your favorite fast food restaurant? I despise fast food. All of it. Always. I was certified as a personal trainer in 2006 and haven’t set foot in a fast food joint since.
@jesofthenorth can you ask her to re-do it? I’ve been going to the same stylist for 9 years. If a color or cut doesn’t turn out, she always lets me come back and she fixes it free of charge (luckily only one color and one cut has ever turned out incorrect).
Team blue/pink/green: BLUE! We did an elective US and you could totally tell but we waited for the NIPT results to come back and they confirmed baby is definitely a boy! I was sure it was a girl but excited for a boy!
Upcoming Appointments: EKG tomorrow, midwife said since I’m overweight I have to do one to get a baseline and make sure my heart is healthy 🙄 then 7/27 for next OB
How are you feeling?: Much better! Anxiety and fatigue are going away and I’m feeling more human
Rants/Raves: No rants but I am extremely happy all of the NIPT bloodwork came back and my carrier screening and everything looked good so that’s one less thing to worry about!
Questions: Anyone else having to take aspirin to prevent pre-eclampsia? I guess first pregnancies and being overweight are both risk factors so they had me start daily baby aspirin to help prevent it.
GTKY - What is your favorite fast food restaurant?
Taco Bell 😂 honestly I prefer to just get pizza if I’m going to eat out though.
@nuggetsmomma21 my OB is starting me on daily baby aspirin once I’m in my second trimester because of my age. I’m 34 now but I’ll be 35 when I deliver, and even though I’m underweight she still gave me the same advice. I think it’s pretty commonly prescribed as a pre-eclampsia preventative.
@nuggetsmomma21 my OB has me on baby aspirin as well. I had preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome when I was pregnant with my son, that plus my age makes me very high risk so I’m on two baby aspirin a night. From what my OB said it’s pretty common to be prescribed and has been shown to be fairly effective in preventing preeclampsia.
Rants/Raves: None at the moment- feeling very grateful and content
Questions: Trying to find quality products is such a task! How did you narrow down your registry lists?
GTKY - What is your favorite fast food restaurant? Taking "fast food" as anything I don't have to cook..... Recently it's been Asian places or somewhere with an amazing salad or sandwich.
@greenbean88 for the registry with my first I did a lot of research through the various best of lists across multiple sites, Wirecutter, consumer reports, and then input on bump product spotlights from stm+. Also consider what you might want from each of the items.
@nuggetsmomma21 I was on aspirin from 12 weeks on with my 2nd due to hypertension/history of pre-e. I had it worse my 2nd pregnancy so I’m surprised my OB hasn’t said anything this time around, but I assume when I see them next week I will be on it again, plus induction at 37+0 to avoid full blown eclampsia because I was super close last time.
