38yrs old, 2 recent early miscarriages

i’ve previously had two kids, one when I was 26 and one when I was 28. I was able to get pregnant very easily and no complications with either pregnancy except that after my first I did lose a good amount of blood I was told. They knew that about me going into my second pregnancy so it wasn’t an issue. I’ve also always had very bad and heavy periods.

Now at age 38 we are trying again. We’ve been trying since October. I got a positive test on December 23, which was three days after my period should have started. 2 days later, I bled (medium) for just 1 day, no cramps or anything else. I just thought it was heavier implantation bleeding. But then one week before I was scheduled for my eight week appointment I decided just to take a test because I had one left over and it came back negative. I ended up going to get bloodwork and they told me that I had a miscarriage. I didn’t have any symptoms other that one day of bleeding but no cramps or anything else.

I started ovulating again pretty quickly and we tested positive for pregnancy again on February 24, four days before my period was due. At 5 weeks, I felt very faint like I was going to pass out all through the night and then when I woke up I started light/faint spotting. Again, I just thought it was implantation bleeding because I didn’t feel any pain. Then throughout the day the blood color started getting brightrr red and a little heavier but again only lasted for one day, although I did have a small clot. Once again I went for blood tests and my test results came back that I had miscarried again. Both Early miscarriage is happened at around 5-6 weeks. Is there something I can be doing to try for a successful pregnancy at this age and stage in my life?

Hi! You may want to try this forum: https://forums.thebump.com/categories/trouble-ttc
At this age, it's more common to experience a chemical pregnancy because your egg quality is lower.
The first step i would take in your shoes is go see a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE) who can run some simple blood tests and give you advice from there. Regular OB/GYNs don't tend to focus on people having trouble conceiving, although they could also order the tests if you ask. At 38, an RE will see you if you (say you) have been trying for 6 months without success. Good luck!

agree with the previous poster, your egg quality might be an issue you need to check with your doc.

I am sorry you went through this. It sounds like you are experiencing chemical pregnancies. Often these are a “one off” event, but sometimes could indicate a hormonal (progesterone) or chromosomal issue. Chemical pregnancies are unfortunately very common. Best of luck x
