Headache help

So recently I read that is is common for pregnant ladies to clench their teeth while sleeping. That is obviously not great for your teeth, but can also lead to waking us with headaches. If you find that you are waking us with them, clenching and grinding may be a cause. I have been using my retainer, it looks like Invisalign, and it helps. You can buy temporary night guards at the pharmacy. Or speak to your dentist or orthodontist about getting an Invisalign like retainer. They may try to sell you one of their custom night guards. If you aren’t typically a nighttime clenched that may be more than you need. Just wanted to give that bit of help in case it could benefit anyone. I actually work for an orthodontist so know a fair amount about all the different appliances

Re: Headache help

  • Thank you for starting this conversation. The night guards from the pharmacy are pretty good. I needed to get a custom night guard from the dentist for grinding my teeth and it was one of the most important purchases I ever made- I actually broke a tooth in half from grinding my teeth so bad! I just wanted to add that if someone does go to the dentist for a custom guard and has Delta Dental (high/plus), the night guard is not covered by insurance; believe it or not, it is not considered preventative care or a necessity. Two years ago, mine was about $600 when everything was said and done.

  • Thanks for mentioning this—I’m pretty sure this has been the cause of recent recurrent HAs :(
  • Yep yep, my dentist said this is very common because of stress during pregnancy. I recently chipped my tooth and my dentist ordered me a night guard. I also catch myself clenching during the day and have to take a breathe to relax myself

I posted that as I was about to go to bed and realized it came across way more pompous and know it all than I intended lol. Please forgive me
