I have a 5 week old baby and I’ve noticed that when he has a fit, he cries for about 5 or 6 seconds without breathing and turns red in the face and when he catches his breath he calms down almost looks dazed/confused. He falls asleep right after or he’s calm like it never happened. Is this normal or is this something I need to bring up to the pediatrician. I’m a first time mom so I have no idea 😕
You certainly need to ask your pediatrician, not necessarily because it’s bad, but because it’s bothering you. I think asking about it will settle your mind and, of course, will get him medical attention if it’s needed.
I'd call your doctor. He could just be overtired and throwing a fit, or it could be something else. If his lips are turning blue during his crying episodes, that's definitely a call to the pediatrician.
UPDATE We did see his pediatrician today and said it was completely normal. He ruled out infantile spasms (his arms stiff up after he catches his breath) and breath holding spells. I showed him the videos of my baby going through these “fits”. I feel a little better about it but it’s still scary seeing him go through it.
