I think @clubfootmama doesn't quite grasp how addictions work and should perhaps refrain from commenting next time. I think being aware of it is an important first step. The next would be discussing it with your health care provider to see if there are patches or other products that are safe for pregnancy to help you reduce your intake. Good luck, I wish you the best!
I was a light smoker when I got pregnant in Jan. Both my OB and perinatologist recommended cutting back until I could stop vs stoping altogether. Stopping cold turkey could cause much anxiety and stress on your body and then to your baby. I did the same thing when I was pregnant with my son and he is a healthy active 10 year old. I have many friends who were in the same boat and even up till birth they would have an occasional one…all their kids are healthy. I’m not glorifying it and saying you should keep doing it, but addictions are difficult so do your best to cut back as much as possible and try to go many days without one. It took me 3 months to cut back and I haven’t had one in 2 months now. My daughter is still growing strong and has all her parts.
I vaped very heavily and smoked weed every day for years before getting pregnant. My pregnancy was a big surprise to me and I quit smoking week the day I found out. Vaping was a lot harder for me to kick. I continued vaping until about 7 or 8 weeks though I had cut back drastically before the 8 week mark. It was not easy at all to quit especially with all of the stress and changes going on. My Dr scheduled an appoint for me to talk with a social worker who helped me understand addiction and my family history a lot more and honestly that helped me a lot and I was able to quit immediately after. Sometimes I really wish I could vape and I struggle but I buy myself a treat instead and that has worked for me. I wish you luck and just know that you can kick the habit, you just have to kick it when you’re ready and in the right mindset and it will be easier than you think.
I smoked weed and cigarettes pretty heavily for almost 15 years before getting pregnant and I honestly thought I would really struggle with quitting but I was able to drop both within a week of finding out but everyone is different! I found that when I start to crave either, I'll have some fruit (I LOVE fruit, especially blueberries ) and that really helps! Wishing you the best of luck!
I stopped drinking when we first started trying to conceive. It took us 8 months to conceive, so I'm *almost* a year sober now!!
That said, I miss it SOOOOOO much. I miss beer tasting and wine. I've tried non-alc beer during the last week. (Heineken 0.0)
Also, I LOVE the smell of cigarette smoke. (I'm so sorry, my baby.) I've loved it since I was a little kid. So, yeah, since people still smoke around me (like coworkers outside and people outside some restaurants), then I still get a whiff of it, and I love it.
It's not nearly as bad as it would have been 20+ years ago, when people smoked indoors, often, you know?
