i can't - my maiden name is so long and unpronounceable, the poor child will strain its hand learning to write.
"Develop an interest in life as you see it; in people, things, literature, music -- the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls, and interesting people. Forget yourself." - Henry Miller
I took DH's last name when we got married because I'm not a fan of hyphenated last names. So there's no question what our little guy's last name will be!
Baby will have both of our last names, but not hyphenated. We may move back to PR in the future and a hyphen would create a problem. Elder Emilio will have two last names like both of his parents.
I go by both my last name and DH's (no hyphen). We threw around the idea of DC having both (like me with no hyphen) and I think have decided against it. Though I may change my mind and want her to have both.
Mine is hyphenated because I really wanted to keep my last name. I thought about applying it to my kids but have now decided to make my maiden name their middle name...I think..??
We did not hyphenate. Looking really long term what happens when that kid gets married. If it is a boy, will that spouse want to take on a hyphenated name or want to hyphenate her name with it? If it is a girl, will she want to hyphenate to include her DH's last name? That gets to be a mouthful. It took me almost a year after we were married to decide what I wanted to do (keep my maiden name, hyphenate, etc). I felt in the long run that DD will have my family as a part of her regardless of names, and that I really felt it more important to present ourselves as a family unit in a more traditional sense of naming.
Nope- I took DH's name and the baby will have that name too.
However, my maiden name was hyphenated. It was annoying. In school people didn't know which was my actual last name, everyone thought my middle name was the first part of my last name, and filling out paperwork (like for the SATs and college applications) took forever because of all of those tiny bubbles.
Honestly, unless you have a really good reason (or very short names), I'd spare your kid the hassle.
Yes, we will be doing it. I am the end of the line on my last name so it is meaningful to me to keep it and I'm not a big fan of the tradition that only allows a man's name to continue.
