1st Trimester

Is she or not???

Okay, so first off… I am sorry this isn’t for me, this is for my daughter. Unfortunately, it is harder for her to find out everything because she’s 19 and in the military.

So for the last few weeks she hasn’t been feeling to well, and as a last resort (honestly as a joke… she doesn’t ever want children) I told her to take a pregnancy test to rule out that as the cause. Knowing me, she went and bought a 3 test box. The first 2 tests were OBVIOUSLY positive. The 3rd test was very much a negative. The first 2 were taken on Thursday afternoon, and the negative was Friday FMU. She had a bunch of stuff to do on Friday on another base, but in between went to the base hospital because I told her she needs a blood test to know for sure. They told her because it’s not her base, she can’t be seen. So she leaves. Her bases medic clinic is closed over the weekend (which sounds odd, but I’ve never been in the military so what do I know!). Well, Monday morning she goes and is told that they don’t do blood tests… she needs to go somewhere else (she told me all the places, but it is all acronyms so I don’t know them), so she goes and is told that she has to have it done at the place that said they don’t do blood tests. So, she’s having a hard time getting that blood test done. As of last night, she’s had 5 positive tests and 7 negative. So she doesn’t know what to do. I told her until proven otherwise, she is to be treating herself as if she is. However, her PT is killing her so the sooner she knows the better!

Here is the kicker… if she is, she’s around 12-13 weeks… and that’s going by the last time she had sex (protection or not). So shouldn’t all her tests be positive regardless if she is??? I know when I was pregnant with my twins… even after I had ultrasounds that showed twins I still have EXTREMELY light tests, but they were still all positive (even if it was just a little hard to see).

Can anyone help guide us (mainly HER). She’s in Korea, which overly complicated this whole mess…

She’s freaking out, she never wanted kids and now has to think about the fact that she’s possibly pregnant.

Oh, and I’m not sure if it matters… but she has the BC implant in her arm in case anyone is going to ask that.

Thank you so much for reading all of that, and thank you to anyone who offers a idea or suggestion.

Re: Is she or not???

  • If she is pregnant and has an implant it needs to come out soon!

We can not tell you if she is or not.

She needs to fight to get blood work done.

  • TLDR; if she is that far along it could be something known as the hook effect. Pregnancy tests measure hcg which I believe works as the gap filler before the placenta is developed and takes over.

If she thinks that she is further along she could potentially push for an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy too. When I went into my doctor for my confirmation appointment they only did a urinalysis (first thing in the morning would be better)

I’m sorry they are giving her the run around. 1-800-TRICARE may also be able to help her book an appointment at the appropriate location.

  • That sounds like such a run around and headache. As PP said, at 12/13 weeks, she should push for an u/s and not even worry about the blood test at this point. It would be very clear at this point.
