Weight gain

I know every pregnancy and person is different but I’m almost 21 weeks and I’ve only gained 1 pound, I lost 10 pounds during my first trimester and have only gained back that 1 pound, I’m trying my best to eat all my meals and snack consistently throughout the day because otherwise I get nauseous but baby is growing like normal she’s healthy but I feel like I’m not. I am exhausted 24/7 and sometimes it makes me dizzy did anyone have anything similar?

Re: Weight gain

  • Both my mom and sister only gained between 5-6 pounds total throughout their entire pregnancies. As long as baby is growing and you feel good, have faith that all is well! I am definitely jealous about your weight gain! I’m opposite of you ;)

  • Pregnancy weight gain has not followed any pattern whatsoever for me so far! I gained about 5lbs in the 1st 4 weeks, mainly because I stopped taking my Adderall for adult ADHD which increased my appetite a lot. But since then I will go 3-4 weeks not gaining anything, and then gain 4 lbs literally overnight! It’s all added up to a pretty normal weight gain of about 12lbs at 22 weeks… it’s also hard to say because my weight jumps around a LOT. For example, yesterday I was at 143, and today it’s 146.2??? But because my weight gain  has gone up in big random spurts, I never know if it will go back down or not.
  • My doctor has assured me that as long as baby is growing as normal and I'm feeling well I shouldn't focus on my weight gain (either too little or too much).  I would ask your doctor/midwife if you have any concerns, but it does seem the spectrum for "normal" varies so much!
  • @siouxieq87 Hydration, bowel movement, food intake, bloating/lack thereof, sodium intake. It's not uncommon to jump 3-5lb from day to day depending on your size due to a combination of these factors. For example, if you don't drink enough one day, your body will hold onto more liquids the next to make up for it. If you drank a lot, your body holds onto far less.

I will echo what's been said here. If your baby is growing and healthy, your weight matters far less.
  • I agree with the statement if your baby is growing and healthy don't be overly concerned. But ...
Just like if you're not pregnant and deprived nutrient s, your body will pull it from where it can ie bones muscle organ etc. Same with baby. You're fatigued, that's somewhat normal, but I'd consider it a red flag. Taking a prenatal vitamin isn't enough. I would really start digging into nutrition or make an appointment with nutritionist. For my needs, I take my vitamin in the morning, but later in the day add an extra B12 and calcium/magnesium at night.
  • I also lost weight due to morning sickness that didn't fully subside until week 21. Since then I've been able to eat more and start gaining a bit. I bet when your nausea eases you'll find it easier to consume more food and pack it on a bit.
