Only 1 blood draw for HCG levels?

I’m 7w2d, I have not seen my doctor yet but did get my labs drawn yesterday. My HCG level was 115,607. Everything I’ve seen says that you usually have blood drawn again 48-72hrs later to make sure your levels are doubling but my doctor says it’s not necessary. My first OB appointment is a phone appointment on 6/20 then they will schedule me for an in-person visit. This seem odd to me. Anyone else only have 1 HCG level drawn?

  • I only had my blood drawn once to measure my HCG levels, which was completed at 8 weeks. I'm now 12 weeks and everything is progressing as it should

  • My OB didn’t check them at all—she didn’t feel like it was better than an early US, and since there was no indication for concern, I just went with it

  • Typically if just looking for dating range, no second level is needed. Two levels typically drawn if patient is having bleeding, cramping, history of loss to ensure hcg is progressing as normal.

    Thank you!
  • I am 4 weeks 6 days, had my first draw yesterday and go in for another tomorrow. I have to go in every 2-3 days BUT that is most likely because I’ve had prior miscarriages, I was told 10 years ago I most likely wouldn’t be able to carry to term, and I’m now 43 and had an oops…this has been a huge shock so I’m just taking it day by day.
  • This is very common. The only reason to have multiple draws is if you’ve had previous losses or possibly other high risk scenarios. I’ve only ever had one blood draw in early pregnancy, and I have no idea if they even checked HCG. If they did, I was never told the number, and I never asked.
  • I have had two prior losses and and I have a blood draw once a week sometimes multiple times a week.
