AMA Mamas Check In - June

Hey all you 35+ mamas! How we doing?

Re: AMA Mamas Check In - June

  • Sorry I've been barely on this board this month. Dealing with major nausea, weight loss, tiredness and wrapping my head around being diagnosed with gestational diabetes so early.... all while working and life in general. So glad 2nd trimester is right around the corner!

  • @portentosa I'm so sorry you're having a rough go of it! Hopefully the nausea goes away ASAP and you can get into a routine of yummy foods that are ok for the gestational diabetes.

We went on vacation to Disney World and got back last week. Very fun, although exhausting, but we all got covid a day later. I'm recovering but more tired than usual.

I had the NIPT blood draw last Weds. Anxiously awaiting those results. Once we have the results and we make it to the 2nd trimester (so close!!) we will tell extended family, friends, and most importantly our 4 yr old!
  • @rac2718 Thank you! I hope you all feel better and recover quickly from covid! I too did the NIPT blood draw last Wednesday and am waiting results. A coworker of mine whose wife is a month ahead of me and has the same health insurance said it took 10 days to get results back so I'm counting the days down!
  • @portentosa hope you feel better soon! You are so close to second trimester; hang in there!

@rac2718 That sounds so fun, minus the covid part! Glad to hear you seem to be doing okay.

This 35-year-old is just trucking along. We still haven't told anyone despite low-risk NIPT and a good US at 12+4. I'm just terrified that telling people will jinx it. I'm hoping I'll get to hear the heartbeat at my appointment tomorrow...and then we'll start letting people know, I swear!

@portentosa hope you feel better soon! second trimester is so close!

@rac2718 We are gearing up for a trip to Disneyland in a couple weeks. How did you handle not going on the big rides? I'm a little worried about having fomo walking by space mountain. I hope you recover from Covid asap with no complications.

@jenkm1110 Wishing you luck for your appointment tomorrow!

As for me... I'm fine? Maybe? IDK it's a hard world out there and I feel like all the work I've done with my PTSD is getting reversed. I'm nervous all this anxiety isn't great for the baby. I finally learned how to mute words on social media today so hopefully that will help. Other than that, I'm really looking forward to our 12 week appointment with US and NIPT testing. I just want confirmation that the baby is okay and I'm okay. I'm excited to find out about the sex to help narrow down name options.
  • @talldecafcappuccino So my 4 year old is only 40" so I knew the biggest rides were already off the table for us. I decided to ride the small coasters- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Big Thunder in Magic Kingdom, Slinky Dog in Hollywood Studios. They don't have giant hills, go upside down, sudden stops or sharp bends, and aren't ridiculously fast. I figured if my tiny 4 yr old could ride it I'd be fine. I chose not to do Splash Mountain because that last hill looked too big to make me feel comfortable. I think you'll be fine once you're there. There's plenty to ride and honestly the desire to ride a lot went away for me. Make sure to take a refillable water bottle. You can go straight to the counter of any quick service restaurant and ask for cups of ice water. I'd get as many as I could carry, then chug one and refill my bottle.
  • So jealous of the Disney World trip! Sounds so fun! I'm hanging in there...I think I have it less worse than some other mamas- just mild nausea, fatigue (though so much so that I feel like I cannot keep up with life these days which is kind of stressful, but it is what it is).  Still a little in disbelief that I am pregnant- is there REALLY a baby in there??  Hope everyone's appointments go well!
  • @rac2718 yeah, I'm trying to have the mindset that when we go back in a couple years we will have a little in tow so our vacation is going to look different anyway. I'm bringing my camera so hopefully  I can just unwind and take lots of pictures. And eat lots of snacks. Thanks for the encouragement!

@portentosa I’m sorry your having a rough go, hope 2nd tri is kinder to you

@rac2718 hope you are feeling better!

I've been feeling better. Some bought a of nausea but my food aversions have gotten significantly better. I’m still waiting on the blood work to come back for the genetic testing (my doc didn’t call it the NIPT, but sounds very similar) I have an apt tomorrow so hoping it will be in. I officially hit 2nd tri Monday! My anxiety has still been pretty bad, but maybe a little better. Hopefully the blood work will come back all clear and that will put my mind at ease
  • @talldecafcappuccino - have the best time at Disney! I hope you can buy some cute Mickey onesies.

I am 11 weeks and my ratio of excited to nervous is thankfully starting to tilt towards excited. It took us so long to get to this point that I don’t take a single day for granted.

One thing that has helped me is after each of our appointments I bought something for the baby. Something I had really looked forward to buying and thought about a lot and it’s been a rewarding way to mark the milestone of each scan.

@msd15 and everyone with upcoming appointments sending love!
  • Tuesday is my 12 week ultrasound (tho I'll be almost 13 weeks at that point) and I'm so anxious to know everything is ok. We are choosing not make public announcements to peripheral friends or on social media until we get amnio results back - I'm irrationally afraid we will find out something catastrophic and have to terminate and I don't want to deal w judgement. But once we get our 12 week ultrasound we will tell at least extended relatives and coworkers and stuff (though close family and friends I see on a regular basis already know bc I've been far too picky about food and drink for me to be able to hide it from my friends). It feels so scary to be 40 and know there are so many things that could go wrong because maybe my baby got a bad egg :(
