GTKY 5/31

lil rel howery comedy GIF by REL

What social/etiquette custom do you wish would just disappear?

This may be personal to my culture, but in my family and community males are served first when eating. I actively push back on this. My mother was a bit aghast, but on mother's day I made sure all of the moms had food first.

Writing thank you notes. After our wedding, I wrote so many thank you notes that it just felt like a chore. It's hard to make 150 thank you's sound unique, so they just end up feeling generic and disingenuous. I'm obviously thankful for the cards and gifts we received, but I said as much to each guest at the wedding. It just seems like it was a waste of time and money on something that probably got thrown away shortly after being sent.

Totally agree on thank you cards! I wish just a text or Facebook thank you was sufficient or small acknowledgement of the sorts, but I still do them anyways.

Personally would love if there wasn’t a societal norm to wear a bra. Some days, I just don’t wanna! Some days, I do. But why are my low saggy nipps poking out my shirt offensive to other people at the grocery store? Mind ya business! Lol

  • Also, very over the 5 day/week and 40 hour work week/lack of afternoon siesta in the U.S. We should normalize afternoon naps for ALL humans not just kids who want to refuse them.

  • @ashnicell I totally agree.  To me it is much more meaningful when someone sends a picture of their kids playing with the toy we gave or when I make a meal with the cookware given by a friend and tell them how much I love it.
