I go in 5/24/22 for my next appointment and genetic testing. I elected to do the testing to ease my anxiety and find our gender early! Is anyone else doing this? I am assuming the genetic testing is just blood tests? Should I prepare for anything else?
I will be going in for genetic testing and my 12 week US on 6/1. The culture of my OBGYN has a heavy focus on testing as a means to make sure that we are making wise, data-driven choices, this made it an easy choice for me. We are team green but we just wanted to make sure that we all have all the knowledge we need to continue with a healthy pregnancy and meet and make arrangements with specialists and care teams if we find we will need additional support for our little one based on the results.
I was not told to prepare for anything besides bloodwork for genetic testing and the NT testing is part of the US.
Did my genetic testing last week and got everything back today. Everything is healthy and good and it was so worth the peace of mind. I’m 40 and wanted to make sure things were going well, and insurance covers it for over 35. You can also learn the sex. We’re having a boy! Just blood work. Nothing crazy.
We did genetic testing with all of ours. I forgot you were supposed to do it after 11 weeks and they didn’t remind me and went in at 10 weeks! Ugh so our results will probably come back inconclusive and I don’t know if insurance will pt for it twice. I was super irritate that my OB just sent me for blood work and didn’t make sure I knew that the NIPT wasn’t supposed to be until later.
@nikkialice23 It took a little over a week for mine to come back. The form I received when I had it done said it can take up to 2 weeks to get results.
Mine was done at 10w2d (last Thursday). I was told a week but I got mine back this morning. But I’d count on a week for results. Also nothing came out inconclusive. So they do it any time after ten weeks
In Canada we have a free 2 step screening called SIPS which I elected to do instead of paying for the NIPT. It’s downfall is it’s 2 parts so you do the first draw when you would do NIPT, and then you have a second draw at about 15 weeks. If your results come back high risk they do the NIPT for free prior to offering amniocentesis.
Right now I’m wishing I would have just paid for the other test because the waiting is haaard! We”ve told our parents and a few support people but I want to wait until the results are back before we share the news more widely.
I had the genetic testing done last week and I am waiting for the results. This is my 2nd pregnancy. There was a preliminary test done during my 1st pregnancy where the results came back that my daughter may have down syndrome so I definitely got all the tests done right off the bat so we know sooner.
