Re: Product Spotlight: Bottle Warmers

  • I've bought bottle warmers for both of my kids sitter/daycare person. The warmer never got the bottle hot enough for their liking. Both people said it was better to use hot water in a bowl and place the bottle in that. I guess maybe body temp is hotter than a bottle warmer thinks milk needs to be.

When I gave my first bottles before I realized I was not going to get stuck pumping and feeding (my husband couldn't get her to take a bottle) I would just give her cold milk from the fridge. A family I was a nanny for had their baby drink cold milk and I would have loved for my kids to just do the same.

  • This is ole reliable in our household. Love this thing and it’s cheap.

We usually did room temp formula or cold breast milk, except for our twilight feed. In my head, having warm milk when you're half asleep is better than cold milk. 🤷‍♀️ We used the Kiinde Kozii because it came with our set, and we were very happy with it. I don't feel there's a lot of discussion available on this, personally, because you either want warm or cold milk, and most warmers are fine. But I could definitely be wrong.

  • Has anyone tried the one for Kiinde bags?

Yes, that's the Kozii one we use. It works really well for the bags!

  • I also never used a bottle warmer - my babysitters just heated the bottle by putting it in a tall cup of hot water. I ebf when I was with the babies though so I may have wanted one if I only pumped or used formula !
  • We did room temp formula with DS1. I got the Kozii in the Kiinde gift kit when it was on sale.
We'll try it out and see how she goes. I'm curious whether I'll feel patient enough to use it. I remember feeling rushed sometimes when mixing formula.
  • No help bc our son actually preferred cold milk.  He actually would refuse most bottles if they weren’t cold. We used the Avent one when we tried but eventually we got rid of it. Hopefully this baby likes cold milk too. 😂
  • I used to just put the bottle in a bowl with hot water for a few minutes. Sometimes it was for longer, sometimes the baby was too hangry to wait so the milk was cold, he was fine either way. I didn’t get a bottle warmer or wipe warmer because I didn’t want him to get so used to them that if we’re out and about and they’re not available he would flip out. He still doesn’t care about cold wipes so I’m happy that worked for us :)
  • Just used hot water in a bowl or mug to heat bottles and only when she was little. Once she started eating food I decided she could learn to like room temp or cold milk. She still prefers room temp milk rather than straight from the fridge.
  • When I worked at a daycare back in college we used bottle warmers and bowls of hot water, just depended on what was available at the time. babies seemed to like them both, but I can see how the bottle warmer doesn’t get up to temp in the same way a good bowl of hot water does. I’m planning on getting a bottle warmer, see how our baby does and go from there.
  • I wanted to add - especially for those planning to try the hot water in a bowl trick - that this thing was amazing for us. Before we decided to do room temp or cold milk, we would use this in addition to our Kiinde Kozii. It was also great for when we were out of the house or Grandma and Grandpa were watching her. We would heat water to almost boiling, fill this, and go. Other brands make similar styles, this was just the one we used.

  • @trapperkeeper87 That's a good idea! We have so many Hydro Flasks that I'll probably use them and... some other vessel.
  • @pangolindrome Yes! It's basically just a thermos with everything self-contained. You could easily use a mug or bowl, maybe even a travel dog bowl? That way you can conserve space.

  • @trapperkeeper87 I am all about collapsible silicone ware. There is probably one of those I can use! :) This is so clever!!!!
