I have recently learned I’m pregnant with kiddo #2. For my first, I lived farther away from our closest big city, so I went to a small hospital and had a pretty great experience.
For round 2, I’m closer to the city, and I asked my sister who her doctor was for her first kiddo, who she loved. So I was excited to go to a theoretically better hospital and have a doctor that I’ve
But today, my husband came home announcing, “We aren’t going to X hospital are we? Because if we were, we aren’t now.”
Apparently his boss just about lost his wife and the baby in the delivery process. They’re doing better now, but he had a whole horror story about a resident doctor who didn’t know what he was doing, and tried to break the water and couldn’t figure it out, and she had to have an emergency c section where they think they nicked something because she lost 30% of her blood and so on. And now they’re looking at malpractice stuff because of how badly it went.
Obviously I don’t want to put myself or my baby in danger. On the one hand, I feel like every hospital has to have a story like this. So how do I sift through the occasional scary story to find which hospital will be best?
I’m still super early, but I’d rather change doctors now rather than as it gets closer.
Re: Should one bad story scare me away from my hospital?
Anyway, the best advice I can give you is to do your research on the hospitals you're considering and do what makes you feel comfortable.
