Hi everyone, I received a positive RPR result at 1:2 dilution titer. Is this common? I’ve never tested for syphilis and find this result extremely unsettlingly.
Do you know if your OB did a confirmatory test (EIA or TP-PA) as well as the RPR? A positive RPR at such a low titer can be indicative of conditions other than syphilis (autoimmune diseases, thyroid imbalances, etc). A confirmatory test will help your doctor determine if it’s an early case of syphilis (one shot of penicillin or round of doxycycline will do the trick) or something else going on. All will be okay!
Then the positive RPR titer was likely a result of something else and no treatment is necessary! Hopefully this is all in line with your doctor’s guidance!
