Crafting & Creative (May)

There was some interest in a thread about crafting projects we got going on so I thought I was start.

This weekend I am working on making a little housecoat/kimono out of flannel. Just another light layer to help regulate temperature. The flannel was marked for pajama pants but I think I'll get more use out of it as an open front jacket these days.... I'm still pretty new to sewing so I hope it turns out okay.

Re: Crafting & Creative (May)

  • I have a lot of free time on my hands now being single again, I have a 3D printer in my Amazon cart and I just want to make stuuuuupid stuff. I also should have built my Lego Death Star run but I feel asleep

@talldecafcappuccino that sounds like it'll be so super cozy.

@janinegb lego death star just in time for star wars day, love it!

I'm working on a large intricate tapestry sized cross-stitch sampler. It'll take me at least a year. I'm loving it though, it's my biggest project yet and my first project on linen instead of aida.

  • @portentosa if you are comfortable sharing pictures I would love to see it! Sounds amazing.
  • I made a onesie for little bub. I hope to make a quilt soon, but I debate if I should wait until we know who we are having. I’m knitting a blanket and knit a little raglan sweater.
  • @portentosa that’s very impressive
  • I just learned how to crochet. So I'm making a baby blanket. It's going well... I think! Lol
  • @portentosa that is amazing! and such a commitment!

I would like to get started on a baby blanket but I am torn between doing crochet which I know very well and will go fast, and knitting... which will be a process. Anyone have fun patterns they recommend for baby blanket?

My little house jacket is going well so far. I don't understand how they want me to finish the banding so I will make the rest up and hope for the best.
  • I finished the jacket this morning. It's so cozy! The print cheers me up too. I think it'll work as my body grows, we'll see.

  • @talldecafcappuccino - such a cute print!

I need to make a long-sleeve version for my freezing office!

I think my first craft project will be stenciling in the nursery in the second trimester. Never done it before but always imagined wall stencils of animals!

  • @talldecafcappuccino your jacket is super cute! Nice work.

I just looked up baby blanket patterns on YouTube. Which was very helpful for me not having any experience lol. Pausing the video and rewinding sure helped with learning new stitches. 😅 I like crocheting way more than knitting now!
  • Ooooo I have so many crafty plans!! I’m making a punch needle rug for the nursery, a mobile, lots of blankets and pillows and crocheted stuffed animals 🥰
  • Hi all!

Crochet is my tambourine craft and I have loads of simple-complex patterns if anyone is interest. My bub is coming in December, so I am busying myself making mittens, toques, sweaters, and stuffies. Also made a baby sleeping bag that doubles as a changing mat. 😍
  • @beanofmydreams I would love a crochet sweater pattern if you have one!
  • @portentosa That's lovely! I've never cross-stitched on anything but aida -- I didn't even know there was an option until recently, lol. I bought some evenweave recently but haven't used it.

I started a new cross stitch recently -- I cycle through, like, four hobbies, but that one has the most of my attention right now. It's the largest one I've ever done, and the first full coverage piece I've tried.

I don't have it nearby (I've done, um, a very small amount of one corner, lol), but this is the pattern:

  • @scatteringashes that is a beautiful pattern. It will be amazing when it's all done.
  • Yarn haul today. These will go towards baby blanket and maybe first hat and sweater.
