Ask a STM+

First time moms, what questions do you have? Feel free to ask them here!

Re: Ask a STM+

  • I am 4w5d and I am having intense cramps. Nurses have said it should be fine based on my answers to their questions, but the internet says these cramps are usually mild. My questions are: do some get worse cramps, how long do they last, and is there anything safe I can do about them?

  • Cramping without bleeding and bleeding without cramping is usually fine. I remember having terrible cramps around implantation with my first.
  • Hi! FTM … I am 5wk1d and for the last four days I’ve had lower back pain on my right side that radiates into my front hip and down my thigh. It feels musculature to me but I’m nervous since it’s all on the right.
It’s not severe but aching and constant and worse when sitting or laying down… I’m hoping it’s just tightness and my uterus expanding … Anyone else experience tight hips / legs so early on?
  • Shoot my name still didn’t change ^^ 🙄
  • @cdobbins24 I would ask your doctor to do a urine culture. UTIs are sneaky little devils in pregnancy. I've got one right now.
  • Yes totally normal.
  • I have a question (possible TW?): Did any of you mamas go full-term with your first pregnancy, or did you miscarry before one “stuck”? I know it’s really common for the first one to not stick, and I’m driving myself sick with worry. I’m 34, this is my first, and I have no symptoms other than occasional bloating and fatigue (which is sort of normal anyway).
  • @jesele I have never heard that.  I think there is the same risk with each pregnancy. My first pregnancy "stuck".  My DS is 5.  I had a MMC last year with my second pregnancy.

  • @jesele I have never heard that either.  My first pregnancy was fine without any complications.  This was followed by three losses, then the birth of my rainbow.  I think what ReadyForaB said is correct that it's the same risk with each pregnancy.  I know it's hard to not worry sometimes.

I second what @ReadyForaB said--I've never heard that, and I think the risk is the same each time. And I second almost everything else she said (because we're apparently twins :D)--my first pregnancy stuck, DD is 5, and I had a MMC last year (plus a CP last month). Out of all of these pregnancies, including my current one (even after back-to-back losses), I was by FAR the most anxious during the first one. I was basically out of my mind with worry. So know that it's normal, and I'm sending virtual hugs/good vibes your way! <3
  • Thank you all so much!! It was just something I’d been told by a physician assistant once and it’s been bugging me. He was clearly exaggerating. 🤪
  • My first pregnancy was healthy thank g-d, and I had a miscarriage between my first and second. Birth order doesn’t have anything to do with it.
