January 2023 Moms

Please talk me down...

Happy Thursday, ladies! I need to vent/ maybe get some reassurance...

The nurse just called with my second beta results. On Monday, it was 7,867.40. My results from yesterday are 14,498. It hasn't quite doubled, but she said that at this stage as long as it goes up by 56% (which it did) it's a good result. What I'm freaked out about is that when I called in to make my first appointment, I asked if I would need an earlier scan due to my previous loss in 2012 and ectopic pregnancy in 2017. She was ADAMANT that they don't do any scans before 8 weeks, so I was scheduled for June 1. Now they want me to come in tomorrow at 8 am for a scan to make sure that baby is in my uterus and not ectopic again. I know that this could be nothing, but this momma is FREAKING OUT. Also, she said they will probably not be able to see a heartbeat yet (5 weeks 6 days tomorrow) so just another thing to fret about. I forgot how nerve wracking this first part of pregnancy is... 😭

  • I'm so sorry!  I know how hard it is to not get worried when you have had a history of loss (I have had three losses, so I feel the same).  I think the rise is good and maybe it is just a precaution.  My OB won't give me an early scan either so I can't go until 7 weeks.  Big hugs to you because I know it's hard to not worry and hoping it all goes well tomorrow.

  • I’m sorry, that’s rough. It’s hard not to get caught up in the betas, but those look fine. It probably is too early to see any heart activity but try not to let that get to you—with my last kiddo my RE just told us ‘baby is fine’ and didn’t even give us more info from weeks 5-9.

    Hoping it goes well tomorrow.
  • @sparklingdiamond I'm so sorry for your previous losses. It is so hard! And although this was an unplanned blessing, I am wanting this baby so much! Thank you for the kind words! ❤️

  • @footdrbritt Thank you for the reply! I think the "all of a sudden" urgency for an ultrasound is what is scaring me the most. Thank you so much for the reassurance! ❤️

@BritanieStanley It could just be miscommunication within the office. Sometimes the doctors/nurses/receptions are not all on the same page and she could've told you no scans but then the doctor may have seen your history and decided to do it as a precaution.

I had a MMC at 7 weeks in March of last year.  The only reason I got a scan was for spotting after sex. This time, my doctor hasn't even put a scan on the calendar yet for me and won't until after my first appointment (with no scan) on June 1 when I will be 7 weeks. I wish I was getting one earlier.  But I try to remember with my son I didn't have one until 10 weeks and knew no better.

I would definitely feel better about getting an early  scan than not.

  • @BritanieStanley I completely understand!  This baby was also an unplanned surprise for me, but I want this baby too.  I hate that loss makes us so afraid.
  • @ReadyForaB Thank you for commenting. I know there is really no reason to be scared yet, but this anxiety is just unreal. I find myself especially nervous for first ultrasounds because with my first loss (after years of infertility) I found my missed miscarriage in the way of no heartbeat at my first scan at 10 weeks. I know I'm being stupid, and I should be thankful that I don't have to wait until the first appointment that I had already scheduled, but I just can't seem to think positively. I'm just hoping that this babe is where it's suppose to be. I wish I could be excited versus filled with dread. 🤦‍♀️

  • @BritanieStanley I can relate.  I also had a MMC my last pregnancy.  It's so scary.

  • How far along are you?
  • @mrsngomessingaround I am 5 weeks 5 days going by my last period, but for some reason, on some of the due date calculators, if you enter in the cycle length (mine are 25 days versus a perfect 28 days) it shows up as 6 weeks 3 days... 🤷‍♀️
