Infant vs Convertible car seat

I'm first time mom and, like all parents, want to make safe choices for my kiddo.  But I ALSO know that all car seats available for purchase have undergone enough testing that they're all safe.

I'm looking at options and overwhelmed honestly. For parents who've used these more than transporting an occasional niece or nephew, do you prefer the infant car seat/carrier or a convertible car seat that lasts longer?

I will direct you to this existing thread for this exact topic: https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12765622/product-spotlight-car-seats :) Feel free to add your question there! You are also likely to find some GREAT information already in there!

    Thanks!
  • I dislike the infant carrier honestly. They are expensive for something that lasts maybe a year. My kids outgrew then in less than that. I did a convertible with my second from birth and preferred it. I won't do an infant seat with baby 4 I'll just baby wear until he/she sits up. I usually end up doing that anyway.

Thanks so much!!! This is exactly the answer I think I wanted, just needed someone to tell me it's right. Haha. Thank you.
  • They can be handy for grocery store trips but you're really not supposed to leave them in there for that long anyway. 🤷‍♀️
I'm a huge fan of Graco car seats. They are so easy to install.
  • I would also like to add that you can buy just one forever car seat and it should be good from infancy to booster. My younger two are in Graco slim fits and they go all the way to high back booster. I think I paid $150 each and they will be in them probably for several years. My daughter has been in hers since birth.
