1st Trimester

Bleeding, Scared, Help Please

Hello, I am currently supposed to be 8 weeks pregnant. I started bleeding a decent amount on Friday and it was bright red, I immediately called my Dr and they had me come in for an HCG and blood test and said everything looks to be exactly where it should be. I had and continue to have no cramping. The bleeding stopped about mid afternoon/early evening Friday. I go in for my first ultrasound on the 20th and I’m terrified. Has anybody else experienced this and it gone well? Any recommendations for anything I can do or ask my doctor? Looking for really any guidance. Thank you.

  • Sorry, but all you can do is wait. Its the worst, but just keep in touch w/ the nurses line if things get worse.  You may have a subchronich hematoma.

  • I’m honestly surprised they didn’t do an ultrasound at that appointment, so you would have a clear answer. Bleeding in early pregnancy can be completely normal, but is always scary. Hopefully you don’t have any further bleeding.
  • I had some bleeding and cramping a few weeks ago. I did IVF and was concerned, so I went to my RE for an HCG and it had increased well since my last one, so all ended up well. It is really anxiety inducing in your first trimester!
  • I am currently 5 weeks and I have a HCG test and ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow as i woke up bleeding and cramping this morning. I went to the hospital and they told me to follow up with my doctor. I am so happy for your post because I am genuinely trying not to freak out but the bleeding hasn’t stopped yet it is not filling a pad at all. This post gives me hope. I love this app! Lol I just need to make it through this trimester and be calm
As I can. Would anyone recommend meditation? I don’t want to stress the baby and maybe some medication might help? How have you all coped with the anxiety?!
  • This happened to me during my first pregnancy. I bled twice, once at 6 weeks and once at 8. Each time i went in and my doctor did ultrasounds and said everything looks good. I went on to have a very healthy pregnancy and my daughter is now almost 3! It’s terrifying, but bleeding apparently happens pretty often. I never knew the reason why i bled. I pray this is the same situation for you. Think positive, talk to the baby, tell them to hang on and you’ll do the rest!
  • With my first I bled around 7 weeks and it was terrifying. I passed a large clot and had a meltdown. I went in for another ultrasound and everything was fine.
Now my second was a different story. I started bleeding at 6 weeks and didn't stop for two months. I bled a lot every day all the time. It was determined to be a threatened miscarriage and gave her 50/50 odds. I finally stopped bleeding at 12 weeks but then it started back with a heavy clot filled vengeance at 14 weeks. It stopped eventually and I had a healthy 9 lb 6 oz baby girl.
    No bleeding with my third.
Currently pregnant with baby 4 but 5th pregnancy since September. I had repeated early miscarriages. My (new) doctor finally gave me progesterone before the fifth one. I started bleeding around 7 weeks and it continued until week 10. I had a Sub chorionic hematoma which caused MASSIVE clots. I ended up having to go in for multiple ultrasounds to confirm that the baby was okay. It's incredibly stressful. I'm still worried all the time and am dealing with a lot of stress and anxiety. also 20 % of women bled during pregnancy for no apparent reason. I hope it turns out okay for you. Good luck!
  • I have had spotting throughout my first trimester - varies from pink to brown. Nothing heavy but I do understand how scary it is. My ultrasound at 8 weeks went great but still have spotting every day. It is stressful!
  • I appreciate this thread. I’m 13 weeks 1 day and had some spotting today. Usually I do spot after intercourse but we did not have intercourse so this was shocking and scary. At my 8 week US I had a subchorionic hemorrhage. But since then all my check ups have gone well. Hopefully nothing to worry about.
  • Hey guys, I’m six weeks and had some light pink spotting and nothing more yet. It really scares me since this is my first pregnancy and don’t really know what to expect. Should I call my doctor? I haven’t had my initial appointment yet and it’s scheduled when I hit my 8 week mark. But thinking maybe this is some late implantation bleeding? No cramping or pain as of yet. Advice?

That happened to me during my 6th week. I spotted one time and emailed my doctor. She said that it can be normal and to only come in if the bleeding continues and if it's heavy. So far only spotted one time and hopefully it was implantation bleeding!
  • I'm currently 9 weeks and 4 days, I've been spotting and light bleeding not enough to feel a panty liner, for 4 days. No cramping, no pain. My doctor won't see me until I'm 12 weeks. I've had one miscarriage before and 3 natural births. This is nothing like my first miscarriage. Just wondering everyone else's results, and how long you bled for?
  • Just had my first appointment 12 days after first positive pregnancy test (8/9 weeks, will know for sure at next week’s ultrasound).
Have spotted/lightly bled the last 7 days straight.  Lightly meaning no leaking no “gushing,” just present when wiping.

Got myself in for a blood test the first day and they confirmed a normal/high HCG count and blood type. They told me to take it easy.

Absolutely freaked myself out all week searching the internet as the bleeding went from pink to bright red and increased in volume (mostly in the mornings).  Still not enough to leak or “gush.”

Yesterday and today it has become more brownish and noticeably lightened up (of course the day of the appointment!).

Midwife did not express serious concern after finding bebé’s heartbeat this afternoon. She said an ultrasound might reveal the culprit (subchorionic hemorrhage)- we have one scheduled for next week.

Try to keep your mind right and remain calm. I didn’t experience any intense cramping or anything like that, however I absolutely psyched myself out  to the point I didn’t think my breasts were tender anymore (my only symptom beside cravings).
I asked close friends and family about bleeding/spotting and more women than I anticipated said they had similar symptoms early in their pregnancies. I think the most confusing thing I read was that it’s “not normal, but common.”

Hoping this comment gives you and others some peace of mind. Talk to people- it’s strangely helpful and reassuring. I wish more people had warned me before experiencing the longest week of my life…

First pregnancy here. I started spotting with cramping at about 8.5 weeks, and it persisted near daily for 3 weeks. It was light, not close to filling a panty liner, and ranged from brown to pink. Cramps were similar to period cramps. I’m high risk due to age, so despite just having an ultrasound at 8 weeks, they had me go in for another at 9 weeks. All was well. And even though the spotting and cramping continued, baby was healthy looking and super active during another ultrasound just 3 days ago (at 11w5d) and NT scan today was normal. Doc said that while it’s not necessarily normal to spot for as long as I did, it’s not super uncommon either. And so far, for me at least, it doesn’t mean the worst! So try your best not to stress and just take it one day at a time.  I wish you all the best!
