Will you be finding out?

I know it's still super early in our pregnancies, I'm just curious what everyone's plans are regarding finding out the sex of the baby. I've been lurking in the Nov 22 board and some of them are already using SneakPeek!

Re: Will you be finding out?

  • My husband and I are planning to wait until the birth to find out. I found out early (13 weeks) with my daughter, but I think there's something special about hearing the doctor say "It's a ... !"

If waiting is too hard we probably won't do it with the third baby.

  • I responded ultrasound but I’ve never heard of SneakPeak—I’ll have to look up accuracy stats for that, since I’m so curious about this little babe!

Same as @brennybird , I put finding out at anatomy scan because I've never heard of sneak peak. But I'll find out earlier if I can.

I left it as a suprise at birth with my first and that was a fun experience. With my second, my first husband still wanted to be surprised but I wanted to know so I found out and then kept the secret the rest of the pregnancy... that was hard. This time with my husband and I both want to know and I'm super excited to experience it this way.

I just looked up how sneakpeak works. Cool stuff about how fetal dna circulates in mom's blood and they look for a y chromosome to see if it's a boy...and no y detected means girl. It says it has good results.. 99.9%. But I found a paper that shows that fetal dna can remain in mom's plasma for decades after delivery and I've had a boy in the past. Probably a smaller amount than a current fetus? I'll probably just wait until the anatomy scan.
  • We used sneak peak last time and while it was accurate it had to be redone and by the time we got results from sneak peak we already had our results from a blood test by our doctor. We're just going to find out when we do our genetic screening this time.

  • I voted other because we’re still unsure! We found of with my first, but my husband had wanted to wait till birth. I told him we could wait on #2, but he’s unsure now! So I’m letting him decide.

  • I have to find out, I’m already a nervous wreck so I can’t add another unknown to the list lol. Planning to do NIPT testing at 9.5 weeks and will find out shortly after that!
  • I put other because we were able to do a special ultrasound around 12 weeks to determine gender. It’s at the place that offers SneakPeek. It’s not a legitimate doctor’s office so it makes me weary giving a blood sample at a place like that so I’m good waiting a few more weeks for an ultrasound 😊 way cheaper too!
  • @lulam13 I've never heard of an actual place for the SneakPeak test, only a mail in kit. I don't blame you for not wanting to give a sample in person!
  • We have always found out at 20 week scan, except with #5, we waited until birth! It was a lot of fun. We got rid of all of our stuff after our last because I thought she was the last one…. Now I have to start completely over with my baby stuff for #6. So with all that being said, my husband wants to find out so we can be prepared. I’m not 100% sure we will. It would be fun to have another surprise! Most likely we will find out though.
  • We found at at the anatomy scan with my daughter, but this time we’ll likely do the Sneak Peek test at our birth center around 11-12 weeks.

I put other because part of me wants to wait and part of wants to know!
  • I’m 6 weeks and I have a sneak peak test just waiting for 7 weeks! So anxious to find out. Though this is just for me and my husband.. we’re not going to tell anyone the sex of the baby until it’s for sure as sneak peak is not 100% accurate.
  • I am finding out.

My sister in law didn’t, and she ended up being surprised with a girl. She loved being surprised with a girl… but then she didn’t want any of the gender neutral grey, brown, yellow clothes she got at the shower. We all ended up buying her new clothes and girly things, because every time we saw her she said she wished she knew it was a girl because she loves the florals and the ruffles,  so there was so much waste in what wasn’t used and so much money wasted on twice as much purchased.

I feel like the surprise is great at that moment, probably more if it’s a boy and you don’t care as much for specific clothing? Or maybe if it’s your second or third and there’s no shower, you’re buying the bulk of clothing yourself later?

I like to find out, and after that experience I am definitely sure it’s right for me.
  • TBD...SO said he would like to know but I'm not sure that I do.  As he said, we have awhile to decide as we would not find out until the scan.  Since I have a couple of risk factors, we're trying not to get too far ahead of ourselves and just focusing on each milestone as it comes.
  • We didn’t find out with our first, but I just felt like she was a girl (maybe mother’s intuition?)! I liked that it was a surprise for everyone - our midwife said the gender wasn’t even listed in my file. My husband and I always said if we had another it would be nice to know in advance to prepare. Right now, we’re still undecided.
  • I voted Unsure because we can't agree lol. I want to find out because I feel like it helps connect with baby, but my husband wants to leave it a surprise.
  • I wish I didn’t know! I never wanted to know before birth. But my IVF clinic unfortunately gave me the genetic results. :(
  • I absolutely want to know ahead of time! I’ll be doing NIPT with my OB and am so excited to find out the sex :)
  • Yeah definitely want to know what it is, I at least don’t want that part to be a surprise
  • My husband and I definitely want to know the gender, so we’re planning on using the results from my blood test. I’m going to give the results to my best friend, she’s going to put the gender in an envelope for us, and we’ll open it together at his basic training graduation so that we’re both still surprised and get to find out together. 😊
  • I want to find out with the nipt testing like I did with my first and then confirm at the anatomy scan. However I'm not sure how my significant other feels he hasn't really said what he wants to do just yet and we haven't even talked names yet. But with my first I already had one name for each gender ready to go once I knew what baby was so I'm a bit anxious
  • I’m going for it, y’all. Ordered the Sneek Peek. My thinking is that this will help tide me over with objective information during the stretch between my 8 wk US on Weds, to whenever they’re willing to do the cell-free DNA/NIPT testing at about 10.5-11 wks. I don’t need to know everything all the time, just something at regular, roughly 2 week intervals 😂
  • We didn’t find out with our first (hub’s idea) and he doesn’t want to find out again but it feels like the stakes are higher for some reason since it’s the second! They’ll be sharing a room at least for a while so it just all seems…easier to plan now if we know? Though I can’t say rationally why it would make a difference.
