Thankful that my BIL is often a great voice of reason for my husband we often see eye to eye and he can steer my husband in the right direction better than I can.
For example talking to him yesterday while my husband left me on the blue tooth on the truck when he ran into the store, he thinks my husband is crazy to move our family into a renovation and expect to stay there with me and the kids during it. My husband thinks it will be fine we'll just move into the upstairs of the barn and go about our lives like normal. I laughed when my BIL questioned this and I told him you're preaching to the choir here, think about what's going to happen when I'm supposed to give birth in September and they're still working on the house and he thinks it will still be OK to be living in the barn... You know, nothing like a newborn and hammering all day long to make them sleep better!
@jhysmath I hear some Jewish kid named Jesus lived in a barn for awhile and supposedly turned out alright...

@kboydbowman 😂😂😂 I think it would be great to yell at the kids what were you raised in a barn??? And the answer would be yes. Sadly our barn is more of a garage and there are not fun animals living in it. The upstairs where we'd live just got spray foam, dry wall, and a mini split and it's basically a giant rec room. I'd have to go down stairs to use the outhouse because there's no plumbing. I'm thinking I'd demand a composting toilet if I end up living up there.
I am thankful for chairs... I just had to solo take over the role of lunch lady in the cafeteria today and it wiped me out. So glad to be able to sit for a minute and prop my feet up.
@pangolindrome she called them "marks" instead of "grades" so that should be your first hint. Although she hasn't said previously (that I could find), pretty sure it's not the U.S.

@kboydbowman I am in Nova Scotia, Canada 😂. I think I mentioned my location previously in the maternity clothes thread when I lamented about the lack of options.
@pangolindrome My school year starts in September after Labour Day...but I think I should clarify, I am a university prof.
@puppiesandbabies Usually when I have someone's stuff on the spreadsheet, it's because it showed up in a weekly update or introduction post. The random mentions of things don't tend to get tracked. Even my OCD has its limits lol

I am thankful that the warden scheduled a one hour meeting which I have to be part of close enough to the end of my work day that I can justify leaving right afterwards and then that meeting only took 5 minutes. since Thursday is my Friday, that means my weekend just started almost 2 hours earlier!

Thankful for a night for myself while fiancé is at a work event. I got my haircut, took myself out to Thai food, and am now binge watching trashy reality TV. I know I’ll miss nights like these soon enough so I’m soaking up all the alone time I can right now.

I dont know if it's the same for Canadians vs US but in the US, if you ask how far away a place is, most people will tell you in time. In Europe they'll give you distance in kilometers. Distance in kilometers (or miles for that matter) doesn't tell me how soon I'll need to leave to get to my destination on time.
I’m thankful to have my eyebrows waxed for the first time since January. Feel like myself again 🙌🏽
@babywiik I had never considered that before! I think in Australia it depends on the context. Right now the closest town to me is 2.5hrs away. When we lived in the city the shops were 100m away.
@babywiik I always find this concept sooo hilarious. In real life situations, I ALWAYS tell distances as times, saying “this city is 3 hours away” or “the grocery store is 10 mins away”. Then I go and teach my high school kids physics and harp on them about distances in meters!
@puppiesandbabies we always get called out by Americans we meet on vacation for “the Canadian things we say” … “eh” being one of them sometimes @kboydbowman . And of course, the amount of times we say sorry !!
Americans poke fun at Canadians, but really we're just jealous over what a STUD your prime minister is. And this was particularly true during the years of 2016-2020....
@babywiik Like @wiseh, I haven't really thought about this before. But, I probably use time more often than distance given that I am terrible with directions and estimating physical distance.
@melyrae Ahaha, I am not surprised. We do stand out! @bigworldlittleg I lived in the U.S. while working on my PhD and I was poked fun at by Americans (and pretty much most non-Canadians). My husband used to tease me about the way I pronounce certain things. But the joke's on him because he has now adopted my pronunciations!
@melyrae s-oh-rry! DH is Minnesotan, but he says sorry with a long O and it makes me think of Canada every time! I'm MN too, and I don't know anybody else who says it with the long O.
I'm from the southern U.S., so everything is "over yonder." Heh.

How to tell out an American: They refer to ALL pasta as “noodles.” I even wrote about it in my thesis about culinary linguistics - it is exclusive to US Americans.
Honestly when y’all said “marks,” I thought you were Australian or British. I guess I’m still Swedish enough to assume “European” before “Canadian.”
We closed on our new house this morning! Thankful it went smoothly. Movers come tomorrow, although we did run out of boxes before we packed everything. Oh well.
@pangolindrome I'm guilty of calling all pasta noodles😂 an adjective to describe shape and size and then "noodles". Related to noodles/pasta, if someone tells me their making spaghetti, I'm going to assume there is some sort of red sauce and ground beef or meatballs involved. I learned this the hard way at my inlaws when they'd only make spaghetti and eat it with ketchup. Such a disappointment😑
spaghetti and ketchup??? Is where is the barf emoji?

@pangolindrome my uncle also adds mayo and pressed garlic along with the ketchup to spaghetti and like you lots of shredded cheese and it’s actually not too bad 🤷🏻♀️ Then makes chicken strips on the side. I’ve only had it a couple of times so it’s not my go-to but it’s not as bad as it sounds haha.

Let me be clear @kboydbowman@JRae2015 - I spend many hours making actual spaghetti sauce (which I’ve been told is delicious!) so ketchup is no substitute!! I think people use ketchup as a quick hack for sooome kind of flavour on plain pasta.
Maybe it's a Scandinavian thing? My in laws are Norwegian and @pangolindrome is Swedish 🤷♀️ or it could be just personaly preference. My father in law forges delicious gravy in favor of ketchup on his meatballs...

Yeah going to say it’s this. Macaroni noodles, meatballs, and ketchup is Swedish “cheap student food” and we’ve always put ketchup on pasta - my parents usually make a meat sauce.
As far as it being a condiment, uh yeah? I don’t use enough for it to be a sauce? That would be gross!
