  • Lol I was actually going to abandon both of these threads, since they're largely underutilized. :)

Fair enough. I love reading what some people say because it can really get a discussion going. Maybe we'll abandon them next week if no one seems interested.

  • I asked my 3 year old if she could stay at daycare all day today so I could clean the house. I've put away the winter clothes (even though it snowed  today) and folded laundry. I've spent way more told on my phone than cleaning.
  • @jhysmath I'm a big supporter of having the best laid plans but then taking a break instead.

  • Ok... Very UO opinion I'm assuming.

If you were so eager to go to Facebook and the bump is so terrible, why not just go to Facebook to start? They have groups there with many more people who also love Facebook.
  • For me, Bump is where you go to find the people at the beginning, and FB is where you go to build lasting relationships.  I try to minimize my social media - FB is really the only thing I use.  There's also the whole "The Bump is a glitchy app" thing, the inability to edit after 24 hours, the inability to delete, the difficulties uploading photos, the lack of a real messaging app, etc...

  • @kboydbowman I get that, and eventually I would like to be on Facebook. Like when babies are being born. Currently right now I feel like we should have a private group so I'm not having lurkers reading what I'm writing.

The app isn't nearly as glitchy as it was in 2020 even then, I used a browser on my phone and got rid of the app.

I don't think having edits and deletes are helpful, I think learning from mistakes is more helpful. My first group would call out people who had "dirty deletes" and it made you more conscious of what you were posting and made sure you were following the rules. (the rules are what really make me like the bump over Facebook) and I guess I don't see the need to post photos as I rarely do so and wouldn't feel as comfortable doing so on a non private board. I also don't think messaging is needed until people are more vetted.
  • @jhysmath I didn't have Facebook or realize baby groups were a thing until I downloaded the bump app and found the community section with my last pregnancy. So I guess that's why I started with the bump🤷‍♀️ I haven't looked at any other baby groups but a few of the other groups I am in in Facebook at HUGE! Like thousands of people. They're the kind I'd be a lurker in and participate minimally😅  maybe a benefit of having a glitchy platform is that you don't get as many people who stick around and lurk for fun?? Idk, you do make a good point though🤔
  • I think right now based on the way the poll is going I'll probably look to set them both up at the same time and then people can join one or both (or one first and the other later).  Just to make sure I remembered how to do it, I went ahead and set up the Facebook one (I'm not inviting anyone to it yet though).  I may go ahead and try to set up the Bump one as well just so everything's in place.

  • I feel this is very unpopular, but the Facebook group for my last board was set up by those people we voted as the moderators, not just a member of the original board. I realize that sounds like a popularity contest, but it wasn't. It was based on the people who were most fair and active and gave great insight. It was a group vote once the private group was made.

I guess I'm used to my current bump group not being run by one person, who sets up every post before others get a chance; it's better controlled having everyone involved and holding everyone responsible for what's posted and when. Sometimes people lose their voice because they feel they can't speak up/be heard over the more vocal ones. This isn't a slam at @kboydbowman, it's just my personal observation.

  • I'm not saying I would necessarily be the one to run it - my Oct. 2020 group has 2 or 3 moderators (I'm not one of them), and anyone can make posts.  I was just trying to get the structure in place ahead of time.

  • @kboydbowman It's a pretty easy process on Facebook and should only take about 5 minutes, truthfully. I've done it before for something not baby related and it was no big deal.

  • Reading through the feedback by those who've previously used The Bump, I get the sense that everyone has a slightly different process that they've been part of in the past, so it's (naturally) what they're most comfortable with going forward! And there's merit to all the various options. I think all will work out for this group, whatever we choose. As long as we stay committed to sharing the exciting moments, supporting each other during the stressful moments, and hating on the "C" names that the boy person comes up with (hehe), the logistics will work themselves out! Appreciate @kboydbowman for getting threads started and such (which I wouldn't enjoy doing) but definitely down with @trapperkeeper87's suggestion for multiple moderators for the private group. Tbh when I first joined this group, I thought you two were the moderators already!
  • My other private bump group has 3 moderators and it’s basically the 3 people that post the most 😊 nobody opposed to the nominations. Other people are welcome to start threads but rarely do, it’s usually just the moderators. Once the babies were born, I think they stopped doing weekly posts and it moved to monthly like “April randoms” “April check-in” and then things like “solid foods” and “sleeping” didn’t have a date association.
  • Confession of the day: I ate a jar of pickles for lunch. Followed by pretzels dipped in garlic sauce from Trader Joe’s.

UO: Spaghetti is better when it’s a teensy bit overcooked vs al dente.
  • agree re: spaghetti

  • Oo see I don’t like mushy spag and I love a mountain of shredded cheddar cheese on mine with big tomatoes pieces in the sauce. Spag has been a huge pregnancy craving for me. @lucyg00cy @kboydbowman

my husband thinks I’m a nut for the cheddar thing
  • I would <3 the mountain of cheese part!

  • Honestly most things are better with more cheese, including spaghetti ❤️
  • Except sushi, which is most definitely NOT better with cheese. :D

  • @kboydbowman well duuuuuh 😏
  • Spaghetti is always better the next day!
  • @lilienne - I totally get that! The anonymity aspect is helpful for feeling comfortable sharing!

Unpopular opinion: I love taking tums before bed - I have the fruit flavoured ones and it’s such a nice little treat! Haha I know it’s weird.
  • @millygolitely
    I like the pineapple/coconut ones!

  • @millygolitely My favorite treat before bed is Icecream 🤣 the scale doesn’t like that too much
  • @foreveronyourside oh yes, I have ice cream almost every night after dinner too. Even though I have non-dairy ice cream (it’s almond based) I still find I get indigestion sometimes from it. I just started needing tums every night before bed in the last week, no matter what or how early I eat my last snack.
