New to Reproductive Endocrinology, frustrated

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum so hopefully I am pushing on the right board. I'm new to Reproductive endocrinology and am a bit frustrated with my experience so far and am wanting to get a sense of how normal it is.

In February my husband and I went in for our pre-conception counseling appointment and did a couple labs. A month later in March, we had to do more labs. This week in April, they scheduled a saki be w sonohystogram. In another 3 weeks, we will meet with the Dr again to review everything. I'm really frustrated at how spread out our appointments have been, is this typical? I have a polyp they saw on our saline SHG that will need to be removed and that will be weeks after our meeting with the DR- they won't across it before! So I will be 4 cycles in just sitting around before we even take any real steps forward.

I know I am eager and a bit impatient, but is this normal for a fertility clinic? Or did we choose one that is just way too busy?

Thanks!

Re: New to Reproductive Endocrinology, frustrated

  • What labs were done in February and March? I first worked with my OB who spent 2 cycles confirming that I was ovulating. The following month I did an HSG (not quite the same as the saline Sono). DH also did a sperm analysis that month and from those results we were told to see an RE.

Be as patient as you can because yes, certain things can take a looooong time before the real action starts.

  • Hi! This was my experience as well. A LOT of waiting. I was also very frustrated at first but have since learned to accept it.  It gave me time to digest the information as it came to us.  Initially, the hardest part for me was having to wait for the next appointment to get my questions answered because I’d always think of questions AFTER our appointment was over. Also most treatments will need to be timed with your natural or medicated cycles so patience is really key.

We were also trying to improve sperm counts and those treatments need 3 months to take effect.  At one point we needed day 3 labs for insurance, so we had to delay getting started by a menstrual cycle to get those labs, submit to insurance, and get approval.  Everything with fertility is about timing.  I know it’s hard, but I hope you are able to find peace in the waiting.  For me, I have even found I needed that time to take a short break and be ready for the next step.
