social media!

What pregnant moms do you follow on tik tok or YouTube?

Re: social media!

  • I like HeyShayla on YouTube, she's pretty down to earth. Also Bridget Teyler is really good. She's a birth doula and has such a calming presence. Emma Hubbard doesn't have a lot on pregnancy, however as a ftm I've learned a lot from her content. She's an occupational therapist for infants I believe.

  • Started following Taking Cara Babies who has great sleep/feeding schedule advice for a FTM. Heard great things about her paid classes too.
  • Careful of her schedule if you plan to breastfeed. ST can really tank supply.
  • @mcclanna I second what @Australian_girl_in_Paris said. I’m in the camp of not doing any sleep training early on, and TBH we never really sleep trained our kiddos. Babies aren’t physiologically designed to sleep through the night for the first several months of life, so if you plan to breastfeed, your newborn breastfed baby will wake often overnight to eat.
  • We didn't do any sleep training at all. The thing about sleep training is that it's not a forever process. You don't just do it once and then you're good. Anything can throw it off and you have to start completely over. In the interest of clarity I'm the type of parent that just wakes up and goes in when they cry until they are weaned. After that please do not bother me. Kids sleep how they sleep. My first born slept 8 hours a night by 3 weeks old. My second started that way but developed a painful skin condition from pampers sensitive skin wipes and then she didn't sleep through the night until she was weaned I think. She's an awful sleeper but she keeps to herself. I'm writing this after discovering via her Fitbit that she's been awake since 2:12am. We think she has sleep apnea so she's going to do a sleep study. 🤷‍♀️ Now my youngest sleeps like a goddamn brick. His smoke alarm went off with the low battery beep and he didn't budge. My point is that babies sleep how they are going to sleep. We've had friends sleep train. It's very hard and exhausting. I say do what your instincts say to do. I personally suffer from PPA after my babies are born so I need the frequent wake ups to make sure they are okay. My children know not to wake me up now unless it's an emergency. There better be blood if you are waking me at 4am. Haha.
  • @EmilyE13 @Australian_girl_in_Paris interesting, I honestly have no idea what that means… her schedules aren’t inclusive of breast feeding moms or they don’t make sense? I haven’t paid much attention yet but I know she preaches sleep / wake windows although I know babies truly vary. Would love to know real life mom thoughts vs an influencers! Is her course not worth it? Tell me everything.
  • OKAY so I just googled her and based on some controversial things I read (Google if interested) I’m gunna have to unfollow. So now looking for some solid recommendations for new moms. Like I literally know nothing, so let’s start there.

What’s a good feeding schedule? What’s a normal sleep schedule? There’s SO much out there on labor assistance, which is nice, but what then?!
  • @mcclanna Happy to offer my own experience! When they’re itty bitty, you feed on demand. There isn’t a schedule. That’s coming from an EBF perspective, so if you bottle feed that may be different. There are people who try to follow the eat-play-sleep method, but my babies have almost always nursed then passed out, so I generally didn’t follow that schedule order. I may be a terrible example, but my kids appear to be unscathed.

One thing I do recommend is an app to track food, sleep, diapers, and medical stuff. I use BabyConnect and loooove it. It’s so helpful to identify trends and stuff, and if you’re a data fiend you’ll really appreciate all the options!
  • @mcclanna when they are little they eat when they want to eat. There is no real schedule involved. Around 4-5 months (maybe later maybe earlier) they get into a routine. You can do things like dream feeds before you go to bed to try and prolong their sleep. I can't really say. I kind of just go with when they wake up. I EBF so I'm just kind of on demand. As they get older and start eating people food then the demand becomes less.
It's a tricky thing to plan for. Definitely look into using apps if that makes you feel more comfortable.
  • @mcclanna I like a lot of the content from islagracesleep on IG. Attachment/Baby-Led sleep info and she dismantles some of the parent-shaming around sleep training. We've never really done sleep training, just watch for his cues, and we use the Hatch noise machine which you can set sleep/wake schedules on
