1st Trimester

Dealing with allergies during 1st Trimester

Allergy season is upon us and it’s getting bad. I’m trying hard not to use any meds until my first OB appointment so they can tell me exactly what’s safe. But my nose is so stuffy that it’s hard to breath. I’ve been using a Nedipot, humidifiers, and air purifiers. Any other recommendations? Should I be worried about the difficulty to breath for the baby even though the bump says it’s the size of a pea?

  • If you are breathing, your baby is fine!

Flonase is safe for pregnancy.  If you are unsure, you can call the nurses line and inquire. No need to suffer until your appointment.

  • I messaged my doctor two days ago about this because my ultrasound isn’t until next week and my allergies are getting bad as well. I’m 6w1d today. They told me I can take Zyrtec or regular Claritin (**NOT Claritin D**) but I’m sure if you call the office your doctor can also let you know ahead of time for something like this.
  • You can take Tylenol, Sudafed (immediate release) and Zyrtec. That combo should perk you up. You can’t take Sudafed if you have high blood pressure. And only take one tablet of Sudafed 30 mg no more often than every six hours. Also Sudafed can cause insomnia so don’t take it too late in the day, kind of like a cup of coffee.
