Re: Weekly Randoms, 4/11

  • I’ve just gotta say, I was looking through the forums on "what to expect", and I'm so glad to be here! I feel a good sense of community, and love recognizing peoples names and carrying on a conversation!
That app has great things too but the forum is VERY overwhelming.
So… happy to be here with you all!

  • @melyrae those forums and the Facebook groups drive me crazy. I need the bump organization and rules, especially in the early days.
  • This has been such a strange week. Not just the subject of my dreams, but my daughter has been so clingy and a mess since Saturday. I have no idea if it's because of trauma from seeing a fully dressed fireman at a toddler event - which scared her beyond belief - or the allergies that started getting bad around there too. She's been clinging like a spider monkey when I try to get her in her car seat (she's fine once she's in, but it's a mess getting there) and she keeps waking up in the middle of the night crying. She's able to get back to sleep on her own, but it's hurting my heart to see her like this. We have an appointment on Thursday with her ped to see if we can get some answers. 🤷‍♀️🤞🏻

And my dream. Hoo. I always have weird dreams and can remember them in great detail (thanks, anxiety 😄), but pregnancy ups their frequency. No trigger warnings here.

I dreamed that I was pregnant and going for a scan. When I got there, they told me I had to go into the room with the red walls because I had fugitive status. All fugitives (my brain used that as the word of choice instead of felon) had to have appointments and deliver in these special rooms. Apparently I stole $10k from a bank because my friend asked me to, and even though she and her husband were part of the theft, only I got the fugitive status. I broke down to my dad (a retired police sergeant) and he told me that not all bad guys get caught. We were having this conversation in a parked car in the middle of the street, with other parked cars in front of us and some motorcycles behind us. Someone honked at my dad to move and he was annoyed, but it was Steven Seagal, and my dad moved and told me, "you should always move for an upstanding man like that." My dad would never say that about him, and given that I didn't even really know who he was, neither would I. Then my daughter cried and woke me up. 😄

  • Target car seat trade in is coming! April 18-30, and you get a 20% coupon for one car seat, stroller, or select baby item good through May 14th!

Time to buy my new car seat! 😂
  • @dsmith211 omg thank you! I’m gonna check to see if they have the seat I want ! Do you know if the coupon can be used online ?
  • @JRae2015 I’d imagine it probably would work, but it didn’t say specifically. I think it adds it to the Target Circle thing, bc the instructions say to bring the seat and when you drop it off there will be a QR code for you to scan to get the coupon.
  • @JRae2015 you can usually use it online! It just adds the coupon to the target circle app!
  • @JRae2015 Usually it can be, so hopefully that hasn't changed!

@dsmith211 We don't need a new seat, but I'm hoping some gear we're looking at ends up being eligible! 🤞🏻

  • Pretty please let enough snow melt that USPS can make it up our road (one of three that have ANY snow). I need those preggo pants.
  • I just went for a prenatal massage. Those pillows they use so that you can lay on your stomach are MAGICAL. As a stomach sleeper who hasn’t been able to lay on her stomach for a couple months, I was in heaven !!!
  • @melyrae my first experience with one was at a chrio at 36 weeks pregnant with my first. I Googled how much they cost after thinking maybe I should just buy one lol
  • I’m pretty sure I saw a blow up mattress style one with a bump hole before 😂 very tempting !
  • Trying to convince my husband to go on a 4 day vacation to Indianapolis to go to the children’s museum and zoo but it’s looking like it’s going to cost around $2,000 and I don’t think he’s going to change his mind…. Maybe vacation with a 2 year old won’t be as fun as I think? 🥲 I just feel like it would be fun to take our first family little vacation before baby is born. Am I crazy?
  • @foreveronyourside We went to Universal Studios in Orlando in October, two weeks before our daughter turned 2, so we could see how it was flying and vacationing with a toddler before we had a second (it was our first family vacation). It wasn't super easy, but it wasn't bad! I'm not sure if I could do it while pregnant, but if you're fairly comfortable, physically speaking, I say go for it!
    DD 10/2019
  • @foreveronyourside don't remember where you are located but if St Louis MO is closer than Indy they have an amazing children's museum and their HUGE zoo is free.  The zoo is in Forest Park and there are a lot of other things to do in Forest Park as well.
  • @foreveronyourside can you find a closer trip. I love taking mini getaways with our kids. We went to cape cod for a long weekend in October and my 3 year old keeps asking to go back. We didn't do anything big, and her biggest ask is to go to a small playground we found near at a beach with a pretend boat.

I was hoping to sneak up to Montreal for my second child's birthday in May, but I forgot my husband's passport expired in 2020 and we were in no rush to renew it because all the borders were closed. Maybe I'll take the kids by myself.
  • @rebornlotus I can 100% confirm that St. Louis has a ton of amazing things for littles that are free! It's a great area for a family adventure. Stay away from East St. Louis and you're safe. Being called the most unsafe city is way overblown.
    DD 10/2019
  • @rebornlotus @trapperkeeper87 @jhysmath you guys rock!! This renewed my excitement to look for other places and things! It would be a 7 hour drive for us (SE Minnesota) but I’m gonna keep searching!! Husband didn’t change his mind overnight.
  • It's that time again!

    This week's fun with stats:

(Once again, data is primarily gathered from the introductions and ultrasounds posts, with occasional additions from the weekly updates thread).

    1) We currently have 59 women who are active in this board.  "Active" in this case being defined as having posted within the past two weeks. Of our active ladies,
    • 1 is due in middle August but has chosen to hang out with us
    • 15 are due in the first week of September (9/1-9/7)
    • 15 are due in the second week of September (9/8-9/15)
    • 13 are due in the third week of September (9/16-9/22)
    • 14 are due in the last week of September (9/23-9/30)

    • 19 have not disclosed their age
    3) What baby number is it for our active ladies?
    • For 35 of us, it's the first baby.
    • For 12 of us, it's the second baby.
    • For 6 of us, it's the third or more baby.

    • So far we have no ladies who have reported their location as the Southwest (e.g., AZ, NV) or non-continental states (HI, AK)
    6) For gender, so far...
    • 15 mamas have announced for team blue
    • Planned boy names: Wyoming, William
    • 12 mamas has officially announced for team pink
    • Planned girl names: None so far
    • 6 mamas have reported they plan to be team green
*Note that these tallies indicate specific usernames who have stated explicitly the gender of their baby(ies) - this does not encapsulate the total courts on the "I'm Just Here for the SEX" post, which are higher.

    7) So far, only one of our active ladies has reported they are having twins (but we do have some inactive ladies with multiples as well).

    8) Other factoids:
    • We have 29 women who have posted more than 2 weeks ago but less than a month ago (8 of these have only posted once).
    • We have 174 women who have posted more than a month ago (69 of these only posted once).
    • We have unfortunately also had 8 women who have left us following confirmed losses.
    • We have 5 women who previously posted but have since deleted their accounts.
    • We have 1 woman who has since relocated to the October board.

If you don't think I'm accounting for your data (or you want to check), let me know and I'll update my spreadsheet.

  • So HR here just got back to me about what Mat Leave will look like, it looks like I can get short term disability for whatever my doctor says I need to take off, not just bonding leave. She also just told me because my husband and I both work for the same company we can take FMLA but we get a total of 12 weeks together not 12 weeks each. My husband was planning on taking off 2-3 weeks if we were here, and if he does that, the time I get to take off gets shortened. Is it me or is that completely ridiculous?
  • @jhysmath Every place I've worked (large, corporate offices) had the same policy: if my husband and I worked for the same company, then we would only get 12 weeks combined. I found it to be completely backward, but I have seen it several places. The global commercial real estate company I worked for when I became pregnant with my daughter had just rolled out a new policy when I was leaving, and I think it did away with that aspect, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

  • @trapperkeeper87
I looked it up and I guess that is part of it. I guess maybe we need to stop working in the same district, saving them money by not making them pay out two insurances and make a district give us insurance buy outs instead. I feel like the only benefit we get by working in the same district is that we can drive to work together.
  • @jhysmath Your entire comment makes me sad. It's like you should feel honored or privileged to work for them, and just take what they give you. Ugh. Our country is so screwed up!
    DD 10/2019
  • @jhysmath my husband and I work for the same company and unfortunately this is how it works for us too. Last time bc I had a decent lead I was able to squeeze more time out anyway but this time I’m only going to be able to manage about 8 weeks bc of this and it sucks. Thankfully we do have childcare covered but I just know even with more than that last time I had a hard time transitioning back.
  • That is just the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. You both could be married to others and get pregnant at the same time and they would have to honor your individual time off…? So sad.
  • @runsonanxiety as it was explained to me, not that this makes it any better… worse honestly if anything… is that the policy is such that they expect only one individual to be affected. For example - one person should sufficiently be able to care for an infant. Which we obviously know is not true.

Sadly in cases like this FMLA protects the employer’s interests more than the employees. 🙄

The additional crap part is I’m forced to also use all my earned PTO. It doesn’t extend my FMLA in any way. It just ensures I’m paid during some of the time and if I for some reason do not have any time off saved I don’t get paid at all. I also have to pay for my portion of benefits while out as well. I also don’t accrue new time off while out so I go back with literally zero time to take off for emergencies. Which is fantastic with a newborn baby. I learned this the hard way last time and have since taken precautions, but it’s absolute crap I should even have to do so.
  • @dsmith211 so it’s basically built as if women can make a choice to either 1)take time off for your mental health 2) time for illness 3) or time for having a baby; You can’t choose more than one for the year.
    Ridiculous.
  • @runsonanxiety I'm also thinking what if we weren't married? Then we could both take the time, we would also both take out insurance and really screw them as a family plan costed my last district $25k per plan. I'm not sure what the costs are here at my current district because it wasn't brought up as a bargaining chip during negotiations this year, but I'm like why am I saving them $25k and getting no benefit for it?

My husband had an application out for another district even though we both applied and interviewed at one together hoping to be able to be together, and I'm really hoping I can discuss with him the benefits of being at two different districts after this. I mean I don't want to travel the 30 minutes to one district alone, but we would get a $5k buy out for insurance each year because we'd be at different schools and then we'd also be able to take FMLA if God forbid anything happened to our children. I'd say take it for baby #4 but he is dead set against another baby.
  • I think two different districts sounds hella financially beneficial at this point!
