I love the mountains and definitely would prefer it over the beach. We live near the rockies and are looking forward to several trips there this summer. The beach is just too sunny and sandy for me.
Mountains! I used to be a beach girl through and through, growing up going to the Jersey Shore every summer (still do) and later on living in RI near the beach, but as I’ve grown up I find much more joy in hiking the mountains with friends, skiing, snowboarding, white water rafting, and planning adventures there than laying on a beach or going in the ocean. I’ve lived in Colorado for about 13 total years of my life and it was definitely my favorite years! One day I’ll move back there ::sigh:;
I really hate this question because it’s so hard to choose! I LOVE a beach vacation - being by the ocean is very calming for me. I love listening to the waves, digging my feet in the sand, and reading a book. BUT, the mountains feel like a second home. My grandparents lived in the mountains of the PNW and my dad now lives in the Columbia River Gorge area. I also live in NWA, surrounded by the Ozarks. I love to hike and can’t get enough of waterfalls and streams.
I love both, but given only one, mountains any day of the week. My husband tried to convince me to build a cabin in the mountains and someday maybe we can, but like @bananapancakes said they feel like home. Also I don’t do well in the heat and I don’t like how sand gets all over lol.
This is why I love where I live. Never far from the mountains. Never far from the ocean.
Beach all the way. We're rather spoiled up here in New England with so many lovely beaches. I live about a mile from two different Boston beaches, and it is glorious.
It really depends on the time of year. In the summer, I'd say beach no question, as long as there's other stuff to do besides JUST the beach. In the fall, mountains for sure, I love seeing the foliage.
Can I say both?! I have the best of both worlds with mountains, open land, and the most popular lake in my state less than an hours drive away. We can literally walk out our door and into fields and see wildlife and artifacts or stay at my parents cabin at the lake and swim all summer. I can’t choose!
Ugh, such a tough question. I guess beach? If we wind up building on the property my parents have for us then we'll be a 5 minute walk to our own private beach. And I do love having the wind and the sun on me when we go down for fish and chips.

Beach 100%. I can't get enough of the sun and the sand. I'm picky though and will only stay in a condo directly on the beach with a balcony that overlooks the ocean. There's nothing like sitting on the balcony and listening to the waves while reading a book. Although our beach vacations look a lot different now that we have kids. It's definitely not as relaxing of a trip as it used to be!
The mountains are nice but when I think of mountains I think of gloom and we get enough gloom here where I live. I crave the sun!
I love both, but I think I'm going to have to say mountains. I'm in Wisconsin so we have some lakefront beaches that are nice, but no mountains. I've vacationed near the Smokies and absolutely loved the hiking. I could spend all day admiring the foliage. However, one of my top future vacation spots will be to the Northeast coast where I will eat all the fresh seafood I can get my hands on.
Beach 100% for me. We go the Outerbanks every year for a week. My son requested a non-beach vacation next year so not sure what we will do with a 7 month old yet! The mountains are fun for a couple days for me, but not my vibe
@physiomama22 maybe that's why I love being in New Brunswick so much lol. I'm in the city, 15 minutes from the closest beach, or I could drive 10 minutes the other way and go "up the mountain"

I live in the Willamette Valley in Oregon so I'm lucky to say I am exactly equal distances from both! I can drive 70 miles and be in Florence (which is gorgeous and SO fun!) and I can drive 70 miles and be in Bend (which is gorgeous and SO fun!) I definitely prefer the mountains because I don't like sand, but honestly I wouldn't say no to either vacation at this point!
@michellelynn6 We love vacationing on the OR coast! After our second was born we took the last week of my husband’s family leave, which coincided with my birthday, and spent a week at Cannon Beach. It was November so it was cold but I love listening to the waves. Best middle-of-the-night nursing ever. ❤️

Santa Cruz, CA - went to college there. There are redwoods on the coast and beautiful cliffy/rocky beaches.
Maine - has quite a few but Bar Harbor is quite the site to see. Lobster rolls and lobster stew definitely add a cherry on top!
