Fit Friday 4/8

Good morning ladies - it’s Fit Friday! 💪

What was your fitness routine before pregnancy and what are you doing currently to move your body?

Re: Fit Friday 4/8

  • I’ve been going to Orange Theory since August and before that I did a pretty intense boot camp so my main form of exercise for the last few years has been HIIT. The first week after I found out I was pregnant I took a break from working out and used the nice weather we were having to go on regular walks. I’ve been back to Orange Theory once this week (and planning on going this morning) and I told my trainer that I’m newly pregnant so that he can give modifications, especially for core at this point. I like that Orange Theory has you wear a heart monitor and my plan is to stay in the green and orange zones.

Staying active during this pregnancy is pretty important to me. I wasn’t very active before my first pregnancy and I was a zombie throughout the entire 9 months which led to a ton of weight gain and fluid retention. I’m not interested in being an ultra-fit expecting mother but I want to help my body out by moving it as much as I can.

  • I walked the dog every morning this week except for today, and took a walk at lunch a few days as well, so I'm calling it a win.

I joined my work's step competition, which starts on Monday. It runs for 4 or 5 weeks, so I'm hoping I'll be able to get some good movement in during this later part of the first tri.
  • I also do OTF. I've been a member for about 3 1/2 years. Prior to pregnancy, I went 4 days per week. Nausea and exhaustion have made it really difficult to be consistent. I didn't go at all last week. I went Monday and had planned to go yesterday. However, I had to have a lot of blood drawn at my appt and passed out, so I skipped the workout. Im hoping to get myself back up to 3 days per week soon. I let all my coaches know so they can provide modifications and have been taking green days when I feel the need.

I rock climb, swim and do yoga and have kept doing all three but I’m exhausted. I climbed today for a couple hours but I’ve been in and out of bed since. I feel like I have to get my workout in before 2 or I tend to not feel very good. I usually climb in the morning and either do a 15 minute core (mostly TA) or a 45 minute swim in the evening. I walk a mile every Night Shift (I am a nurse) but in general I am just feeling slow and tired these days and hoping I get the second trimester energy boost I keep hearing about
  • @ashnicell I only went 2 times this week when I usually average 3-4. I figure 2 is still better than none (1 is even better than none!). I definitely noticed a fatigue that hasn’t been there. I’m a power walker but had been incorporating much more jogging into my tread work so my pace had been increasing significantly… yesterday, I walked at 3.5 the entire time and had a hard time keeping that up! 😂 Rowing is usually my strength, and again, I just didn’t have the steam for it.

@dzapp do you go to a climbing gym? I’ve been to our climbing gym a few times - I loved it but WOAH! That’s hard work.
  • @dzapp I can so relate to you!  I am also very active - used to climb as well pre-kids - and have a hard time slowing down. I totally hear what you are saying about having the energy in the moment, but then tired the rest of the day.  I'm committed to keeping it up because I need to be active for my job and it has made previous pregnancies and births pretty much a breeze.

This week I have been doing more running/jumping/fun big movements and it feels better than lifting weights. I am hoping to skip my regular workout tomorrow and just go hiking which will give me some of the nature I crave, but also help me gently. move my body. (I swear I am not an exercise nut, but I am just very grateful for what my body can do after experiencing intense injuries as a teenager.)

@bananapancakes yeah! I go to the climbing gym usually 3 times a week. It’s a nice controlled environment and way easier to get a quick few climbs in compared to going outdoors. Also I feel safer. There’s definitely a new element of anxiety now😑
  • 1st pregnancy I was in the best shape of my life. Since having our daughter I have struggled with getting even close to where I was. Before this pregnancy I was running (and was gaining weight. Not muscle bc my close were getting tighter 😩🥴). I assume my age isn’t helping (I’m 37)

Now pregnant with #2. Starting this pregnancy about 18lbs heavier than I was for the first one and I’m using the prenatal program in tone it up (it’s an app for $10/month) and I’m really enjoying it.

I’m so afraid of labor this time because I was at my peak strong and fit the first time and I’m afraid this time I’m gonna be so weak 😩
  • Before this pregnancy I’d gotten into a good routine doing beachbody workouts during my youngests nap time. This pregnancy has rocked me and I’ve been struggling to do much of anything. I’ve been slowly getting back into working out and have been liking the prenatal barre workouts.
