The priests of interwebs say, "confess your pregnancy sins!" Or just sins in general.

Re: Flame Free Friday Confessional 3/25

  • Last night all I ate for dinner was baklava! (I tried a few healthier things, but nothing tasted edible.)

Some complicated chromosomal stuff going on - our fingers are crossed, but this may not go according to plan!

  • Today I kicked a really lazy tech of his scanner and made him the coordinator instead because I could hardly move after doing 2x the amount of patients anyone else did yesterday and he actually did my job 😅 not sorry, the pregnant lady can’t be the hardest working one. New people have to pay their dues👌🏻🤷‍♀️😅
  • I accidentally vented pretty hard over in October’s version of this because my hormones told me to.

I’ll repeat that I wish I could quit my job. I love my coworkers and students, I just don’t have the love anymore and ever since I got pregnant, my desire to teach has evaporated. Even things I’m excited about aren’t that enticing. I’m enjoying life as much as ever, so I don’t think it is prenatal depression. My priorities are shifting, I guess?

On a more preggo-sinful note, I’ve been daydreaming of alcohol and not having a beer or fruity, boozy drink all summer is going to suck. I’m not a heavy drinker anymore, but a cold Truly or two on a warm summer evening just… it’s so nice. This kid better be healthy 😂 I’m doing all I can on my end.
  • @pangolindrome not to tempt you into wickedness or anything, but there is some data suggesting that the occasional alcoholic beverage isn't the worst possible thing. That said, it is definitely debated and the very safest answer is to avoid alcohol while pregnant. After looking at the research and the different opinions, I've concluded that I might steal the occasional sip of my husband's drink if he's having something that sounds really, really delicious. Not sure if this helps or not, but it seemed worth a mention!

  • @lilienne @kboydbowman I have had half a sip of one drink, but it’s not exactly… you know, satisfying. I’m taking no risks, I just really (sometimes) miss not caring so much about the contents of my intake.

Can I start a thread about fave alcohol-free/virgin drink mixes? Lol.
  • lol you could....or you could rope it into the "eating" thread. :)  But I won't kill ya if you start a new thread.

  • I had two glorious sips of red wine at dinner one night. It tasted like heaven, I cannot wait to have a full glass once the baby comes. I also can’t wait to have a juicy IPA, a spicy margarita, mojito, and a mule. I think because I can’t drink means I’ve been craving my favorite drinks more in the last few months than I ever had 🤷🏼‍♀️😩🍷🍹
  • I'm sending the kids for a 2 hour dri e to the dealership with my husband to get our truck looked over because I wanted to go through their room and clean, but now that Bridgeton season 2 is out, I feel I'm going to just sit on the couch all day. He does it when I take the kids so that's fair right?
  • @jhysmath Totally fair

  • @pangolindrome fair enough! It's definitely less fun to limit yourself with things you really enjoy. Being bad at the "cold turkey" approach, it helps me to know that I don't have to avoid it like the plague.  :)

  • Warning, my confessional is probably someone’s trigger.

This kid has to be as healthy as I can possibly make it. I am not interested in anything but the best I can do because… well, like if my trisomy results come back showing something is wrong, we’ve agreed that we’re not putting a child through growing up that way. Life is hard enough as it is. I have celiac, we both have messed up sinuses, there is so much that can go wrong in a human lifetime anyways.
I don’t even know if I’m interested in going through another pregnancy, so I feel that I have to be committed to doing my utmost to grow a healthy human. If this all goes well, we do want another kid, but I’ll be over 35 and I’ve really not enjoyed being pregnant, so this could be it for me.
  • @pangolindrome I'm hoping you get a better pregnancy experience in the next few months. I'm personally so sad this will likely be my last time feeling a baby inside me. As much as first trimester sucks I feel I'd do it over and over to feel those baby wiggles. I have been mentally preparing myself that this is the last though, and thinking about what the next stage in life will look like, and eventually having kids who can get up and make themselves breakfast and I can lay in bed a bit longer.
  • @jhysmath Thank you. It’s already better. I just can’t see myself pregnant again if I’m working more than half time. My teaching has never been so unenthusiastic as first trimester and I just wanted to go home and be horizontal all day. My students are just lucky that most all is prepared already since it’s my fourth year at this school. Otherwise, I don’t even know how I would have survived.
Also, I really appreciate your perspective. I am excited for the part where I can feel the little life move around, reassuring me of its existence and health. I’ll try to enjoy it even more with/for you :)
  • @pangolindrome I think first trimester is hard I've had two prepandemic, but add the pandemic teaching and it's terrible. I'm not sure if it's the new school I'm in or if what I read is true and it's all students these days, but chasing students for work and most just not doing any or using apps to complete homework but failing every test because they don't want to put the work in (I allow use of notes even). My husband and I go back and forth with the idea we're in a bigger school, with more resources, but these students just are not as bright as our students from a poorer rural area. We don't know if it's because they had us (my husband for 3 years of middle school and then myself for 2-3 years of high school) or if it's some pandemic thing, or if these kids just don't normally get a quality education. So this to say, if things ever return to a more normal, the first trimester teaching isn't usually this bad.
