Traveling at 24/25 weeks

So my boyfriends friend is getting married in July in Portugal. The wedding was suppose to be in 2020 but things got held up. I will be 24/25 weeks at that point and I really want to go. We decided to change the trip from a two week around Europe trip to just one week in Portugal to relax(babymoon). My doctor said the trip would not put the baby in danger but he wouldn’t tell his wife or daughter to go. I feel like that is just to cover himself obviously so what does everyone think? If at the time before the trip I’m perfectly healthy and fine can I go? I’ve gotten a lot of mixed responses and I’m looking for someone who has traveled while being pregnant for some advice. Help! I really want to go and enjoy myself since I’ve never been over seas before and sadly if I don’t go my boyfriend will still be attending and pregnancy has already given me terrible fomo so far.

Re: Traveling at 24/25 weeks

  • Watching this thread, since I currently have plans to travel across country from 25 to 27 weeks.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • I personally would be hesitant to leave the country at that point unless I had a solid plan and confidence that I would be able to get emergency healthcare if needed, and that if God forbid the baby would come while I was there, that their hospital system would be able to support a baby born that early. I know the chances of that happening are slim. But it would feel like too much of a risk to me.
  • I would just make sure you get travel insurance that includes medical. Super common to travel in second trimester!
  • I was right around 20 when I went to Mexico for my brother in law’s wedding last pregnancy.  As long as you are feeling okay and are not having any complications I would say go for it.
  • I flew cross country at 26 weeks with my first, and found that to be the easiest time to travel from a pregnancy perspective. I also flew to the East Coast at 34 weeks which was less fun. Typically doctors recommend the 2nd trimester being the best time to travel (energy is up from 1st, and less likely to go into pre-term labor than 3rd). I know plenty of women that have travelled out of the country into the beginning of their third trimesters with full support from their doctors.
I’d get travel insurance before booking, and then play it by ear as it gets closer with how your pregnancy is going.
