Ultrasound and questions

Hello!
I found out I was pregnant 3-1-22… went in to have an ultrasound due to severe cramping. Nothing was seen they said it was too early so I did hcg testing 2times and my levels were going up normal. Well I went in today for what should of been my almost 8 week check to make sure it was going good. Found out I’m 5w4d only and there is now a gestational sac (they said everything looks great and normal just still too early to see anything else) that I found out early.

So I’m progressing great they said…I’m just bummed that I am not as far along as we thought. I have endometriosis and wonky period times.. so I know I could of ovulated late.

But I’m nervous…. Anyone else gone through this?
When did yalls yolk sac show up (if you know)

Any advice (this is my second and I’m so stressed)

I know they said it’s normal and looks great but I’m freaking out that I could of found out so early and that I’m not as far along as we thought.

I go back 4-5-22 for another ultra sound

Re: Ultrasound and questions

  • The dates seem off, I’m sorry. But I know early ultrasounds can be off by a few days. Even if you found out super early (like 3 weeks & change), I would assume you’d be at least 6+ weeks by now and should’ve seen a little more on the scan. (Yolk sac & fetal pole) but that’s just what has been the norm from reading through posts on the board. Wishing you the best of luck.

  • I have endometriosis,  and honestly as an endo sister, trust the dates on the scan and be happy that the numbers are going up and the doctors say that things look good.

Your ovulation had to have been way off.  I am assuming your periods are not regular (mine never were I would even miss a month at times).

I was not even supposed to have kids (my endometriosis was diagnosed in an emergency surgery where they found adhesions covering my entire pelvic floor, and endometrioma that burst and bled out, my left overy was stuck on my right overy, it was a disaster in there) and was blessed with a miracle before having a hysterectomy.

I guess I'm wondering why you are bummed you are not as far along as you thought?  That is kind of an odd statement.

I say congrats and treasure this and be thankful the docs are happy and things are progressing. Best wishes on your next ultrasound.
  • I’m bummed because everytime I go in it’s something else. I’m nervous it means something is wrong. First time I went in they scared me with possible miscarriage or etopic pregnancy and then now there isn’t anything in the sac so I’m worried somethings wrong.
  • If you got a positive on 3/1 you should be at *least* 6.5-7 weeks along, regardless of when you ovulated. A yolk sac normally appears in week 5 and a fetal pole should be visible by 6.5 weeks. HCG levels are useful in ruling out chemical/ectopic pregnancy but not necessarily indicative of a viable pregnancy. There’s always a chance that baby can catch up, but measuring a week or more behind where you should be is often not a good sign. I’m honestly surprised your doctor is being so dismissive of your concerns, but either way a follow up scan is the standard protocol in these situations and unfortunately there’s nothing much you can do other than wait and see what happens at your next ultrasound.
