Sequential screening vs NIPT for under 35?

Hi! For those getting genetic screening tests and are considered low risk/under 35, do you know if you’re doing sequential screening or NIPT? I had incorrectly assumed NIPT was the standard since most of my friends got NIPT but apparently some doctors (like mine) recommend sequential for under 35/lower risk. Ultimately it’ll be my choice. Ill be closer to 35 than 34 when I give birth, making this decision even more confusing! Curious if others are in the same boat re: making a decision, and/or if people want to speak to their experiences with either test? Thank you ♥️

    I think we already have a thread for NIPT questions so you may want to ask this there for more answers, but I was 34 with my first and did the NT (I assume this is the sequential screening) first and because age is such a factor in this screening it doesn’t take much to get to an elevated risk score and then my insurance covered NIPT when it wouldn’t have before. You also get an ultrasound with the NT scan that you don’t get with the NIPT, and the nuchal translucency measurement can sometimes give you a clearer picture than what the NIPT shows. I don’t think I’m going to get the option for the NT scan this time around but I’m hoping that I do.

    @bows22 Thanks for sharing your experience! Yes I’ll also get an NT scan. By the sequential test I meant the blood test that checks different protein levels.

    @pizza1788 I’m 33 and the doctor recommended a NIPT test “just in case”. Can’t hurt!

    @pizza1788 I have done it for all my pregnancies. With my first I was 32. For me it was more about peace of mind then and now I’m older so the risk goes up and I am doing it again. Now though I also think it is important to discuss with your partner if and how results could influence decisions you make.
