Re: Product Spotlight: Pillow/sleep gear

  • I picked up this one and I really like it. I'm short (5'2"), so it's a little long, but it's flexible enough that I can just put it where I want it. I'm debating a wedge-style pillow at some point - I have scoliosis so my spine dips to the side, and I often wedge a towel or something in the gap under my rib cage. I'm guessing that will get worse as I get bigger.

  • @lilienne the snoogle is what I had too.

Anyone have the mom Frida one? That looks interesting.

Also anyone with sciatica pain and a side sleeper have any solutions?
  • @lilienne I ended up with the snoogle and it came today. I’m probably way too excited to try it tonight 😂
  • I have this one (INSEN pregnancy pillow) and really like it! Classic "C" shape - very comfy and soft.
  • When should you start using a pregnancy pillow? This is my first pregnancy and I’m 13w2.

Whenever you want is honestly fine and it won't affect anything negatively. Some women start right about now, and some wait until sleep becomes incredibly uncomfortable. I had excessive weight gain last pregnancy and waited until I was just over 6 months. Big mistake! It would have helped me immensely if I started earlier. I plan to start by about 4.5 months or so this time.

@serenity_by_van I've been using a pregnancy pillow since before I was pregnant 😜 it's really up to personal preference and isn't even truly a necessity if you don't want to. Often it can be more comfortable at night time to have your bump supported & pregnancy pillows help so you don't end up surrounding yourself with twenty pillows.

I am currently using this one but I am finding it quite floppy in the back & my husband ends up wrapped up in it. I do like it though because I don't have to pick it up and carry it over if I am turning around. Downfall is that when my DD is in bed she cannot be as close as she wants unless I move the pillow completely out of the way.

During my last pregnancy I had one like this which I also liked, and I just put a pillow behind my back to stop me rolling onto my back towards the end of the pregnancy. https://www.babybunting.com.au/product/bambi-baby-body-pillow-with-pillow-case-67154

That's basically the same pillow I have except I got mine off Amazon lol.

  • @serenity_by_van I just got mine and started using it last night. I feel like it helped but it got a little warm for me so I’m just going to have to adjust what I wear to bed, blankets, etc… so maybe something to keep in mind as well.
  • @serenity_by_van I bought one early because my back has been bugging me this whole time - honestly, I think it's the added weight of bigger boobs.  :D My understanding is that they aren't medically necessary at any point (unless we're talking about the ongoing "does sleep position matter" debate), so I think it's 100% up to your comfort level and current needs!

Got my pregnancy pillow on Saturday. I’m a stomach sleeper that flips to my back midway through the night, so I’m hoping it will help me stay on my side.

My husband is in love with it lol. If he’s in bed and I’m not, he has it wrapped around him 😂. I guess I know what I’m buying him for his birthday next month!

The cats also think it was purchased for them and like to wedge themselves between me and the pillow…cozy *sigh*
  • I've opted for a leg pillow that has a strap to connect to my leg. It's for sciatica, which I'm assuming is what is making side sleeping so painful for me. As I get bigger, I'll get either a belly wedge or the belly pillow I saw that actually straps on.

I've been sleeping on my back a lot so I hope this helps.
  • @laj0217 If my dog beats me to bed, he always plops himself right in the middle of mine.  Do you know how much fun it is to try to move a reluctant 65 pound pit bull when he is comfy?

  • @kboydbowman I have one of those at home! Luckily she’s scared of the cats and they’re much easier to move 😂
  • Alas, the cats do not live in the same part of the house as the bedroom (it's complicated, but my master bedroom is essentially a whole separate building with a separate entrance), so they dogs reign supreme.

I had no idea this was a thing!!! I’m glad I found it before I might need it :)

Is there one someone has preferred for summertime?
  • I bought a sciatica leg pillow and so far this week is been nice. It is much smaller than the giant pillows which I love. I'll have to get a belly wedge once the time comes, but I can see this being a good plan my hip pain is better with it.
  • @jhysmath Which pillow did you get? I had bad sciatica pain last time, and the knee pillow I used left much to be desired (I move way too much in my sleep and it didn't strap to my leg).
