Fatigue makes me feel sick, although my nausea is really manageable and I havenโ€™t puked at all. I could really do with a little more energy. Everything takes effort.

Small school, low attendance, few college-motivated studentsโ€ฆ Iโ€™m devastated and barely holding it together. Trying to come up with options and feeling really tempted to say โ€œF it, Iโ€™ll just go down to 75% or 50% and I wonโ€™t have to care and those slots just wonโ€™t exist.โ€

    Like by my standards, pretty much nothing, but Iโ€™m from Sweden and living in the US. Reindeer jerky, horse meat (not great, donโ€™t recommend), blood sausage, Swedish Kaviar (Kalles Kaviar, smoked codโ€™s roe). I had to smell fermented herring once which was close enough for me. I recommend โ€œfermented herringโ€ try videos on YouTube.ย 
  • @sandy5693 in terms of prenatal appointments, yep usually once a month until the third trimester! They should (hopefully) go over this in-depth with you at your first appointment. The usual schedule for a low-risk pregnancy is roughly:

    - Once per month, first and second trimesters (weeks 8-28)
    ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  + Optional first trimester screens, like NIPT or NTย  (10-14 weeks)ย  ย  ย ย 
    ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  + Mid-pregnancy anatomy scan (18-22 weeks)
    ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  + Gestational diabetes screen (24-28 weeks)
    - Every two weeks, third trimester (weeks 29-36)
    - Every week, last month of third trimester (weeks 36 until delivery), might include non-stress tests

  • @merostomata I have a rectocele prolapse from delivering my first and am definitely having some leakage issues already this pregnancy.

    @sandy5693 My midwives follow exactly what @merostomata said above re: appointment line-up for low-risk pregnancies.

    @pangolindrome When you buy depends a lot on when you show and your size. Some people can get away without getting much by way of maternity-specfic clothing and just size up. I'm already showing at 10 weeks and have needed to dig into my maternity clothing stash from my first pregnancy for a couple of items, namely pants. In my first pregnancy I remember needing a new bra pretty quickly and haven't gone back to underwire since. I'm still able to get away with wearing my flowy dresses and some looser tops, but I've already ordered a few items. Also a good thing to remember is that you may need your maternity clothes for a month or two after having baby as your bump goes down, so make sure to get some warmer options for October, November and maaaaybe December. Oversized sweaters work too.

  • @krthouse sorry you're experiencing effects from the rectocele. Childbirth really does a number on us, doesn't it? Thanks for sharing, it does help to know I'm not alone in PF issues. Sometimes it feels like it, although I suspect they're actually way more common and we just don't talk about it enough.

    Also for @pangolindrome, I didn't need different maternity wear for different parts of pregnancy, except for one pair of exercise pants that became too tight at some point during the third trimester. Maternity pants are usually designed to grow with you, with either the panel thing or just going under the bump. Shirts are pretty stretchy anyway. So hopefully a few main pieces will last the whole way through!

    And I'm really sorry about the classes :( That must be disappointing. I hope you can figure out a solution with your administrator that works well for you. If you do reduce hours, it could be a nice opportunity with a new baby-- I did 75% time after maternity leave and it was perfect, but that's totally up to you.
  • @merostomata Pelvic floor issues are incredibly common! It's an area of women's health that is severely neglected. My midwives advocate for all of their patients with coverage to work with a pelvic floor physio both through pregnancy and postpartum. The health problems women deal with later in life from this being neglected can even be severe. I suspect if men had the same thing it would be covered ๐Ÿ˜’

    @krthouse thank you. It does NOT help me that I donโ€™t like dresses, but Iโ€™m definitely not showing yet at week 10โ€ฆ even if I feel like I might be relatively soon. Iโ€™m a B cup and Iโ€™ve, currently, gone from โ€œsmall Bโ€ to โ€œfull Bโ€ so my bras are still fine ๐Ÿ˜‚ so Iโ€™ve never had to wear an underwire bra. They make my ribs hurt, so I avoid them anyways.

    @merostomata that sounds good to me, haha. I look forward to not wearing work clothes during third tri, at least not most of it thanks to summer vacation.
    And yeah, I have given my principal a โ€œIโ€™m open to other classes but this is an idea Iโ€™m entertainingโ€ and itโ€™ll all depend on my husbandโ€™s work when we get there, which we wonโ€™t know about until we get there. It would be amazing to go down to 75% if we can manage it. It would be for a year, I know there will be students for those classes for 2023-24.

Now starting to have slight nausea around the same time in the morning, but Iโ€™ve been stuff crackers in my face to help lol. Also, this gas is ridiculous yโ€™all. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I promised myself not to let things get to me, but my class/coworkers are making it tough! Luckily Iโ€™ve told my admin and few close coworkers and they are so supportive!ย

    I also wanted to see if anyone else had to do a 24hr urine sample? My OBGYN explained that Iโ€™ll need to do one, but with me just listening and not fully processing everything she said until after I didnโ€™t even ask why. Looked it up and is a way to screen or monitor for preeclampsia. I have white coat syndrome and blood pressure is THROUGH THE ROOF anytime Iโ€™m in a doc office. Guessing thatโ€™s why?

    ๐—ฅ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€/๐—ฅ๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐˜€: Iโ€™m terrible at trying to hide this pregnancy. Met a co-worker buddy at a brewpub after work and had the waiter bring me a ginger beer in a mule mug. Co-worker immediately observed that mules werenโ€™t on the menu and then just kinda looked at me and I blurted out โ€œIโ€™m pregnant!โ€ His wife is pregnant with their third so he probably picked up on the off-menu drink faster than most.ย 

    ๐—ค๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€: nope

    ๐—š๐—ง๐—ž๐—ฌ: What's the most unusual thing you've ever eaten? Iโ€™ve had uni (sea urchin) at a sushi restaurant and liked the taste but not the consistency (mucous). In Ecuador I ate one of their traditional dishes: cuy. Itโ€™s guinea pig. Tasted like chicken.ย
