Re: GTKY 3/8

  • I was a superfan of Dave Matthews Band back in the 90's and early 2000's and saw them twice. Both times were amazing!

  • I saw Sting with Annie Lennox back in the early 2000s.

  • I enjoyed the shows I went to see in college and high school. They were smaller emo-esque artists and most of the time they were small venues. I did go to warped tour a few times and really enjoyed those, it worked really well when I first started teaching as a bit of street cred because I knew some of the screamo bands my students were into and they couldn't believe that I had seen them before. Now, I am just old and don't do concerts or know what my students really listen to.
  • Where’s my country fans at?! I went to an outdoor country concert a few years back with all sorts of middle-fame country artists at that time - Cole Swindell, Jordan Davis, Lauren Alaina, Jimmie Allen, Blanco Brown.

hoping they do it again this year - it was cancelled the past two years :(
  • Odesza! Was some of the best artistry and visuals! Plus when their whole set lost power they didn't freak out. I also saw the Weeknd before he was anybody at a small venue in Seattle and that was magic.

And biasly all of my husbands concerts! Its so cool to watch him share his talents with so many people.

Hmm my favorite ever was probably an Incubus concert. But I also love country and my favorite country concert was Eric Church or Gary Allen.

Edit** - I lied. My favorite country concert was Travis Tritt and Charlie Daniels Band (right before he died. He was STILL incredible on the fiddle).
  • @mk2022x I used to really hate country, but my ex-wife was really into it, so I gave it a chance, and now there's quite a bit I like.  My favorites are probably Eric Church, Jason Aldean, Cam, and Keith Urban.  Cam's "Burning House" is one of my favorite songs of all time and perfectly encapsulates a former relationship of mine.

  • Years ago I saw Reel Big Fish at this tiny dive bar in Colorado Springs. I loved the tiny venue and being so close to the show, even though I watched from the back so as not to get trampled. It was really fun!

Some complicated chromosomal stuff going on - our fingers are crossed, but this may not go according to plan!

  • @kboydbowman all it takes is someone else listening to it and then you’re like hey, that’s actually not terrible haha! DH was the same way. He didn’t like country until he met me. 🙃

@mamamoomoo12 what The Weeknd!? How cool. We saw him at Bumbershoot in… 2016? That was a great concert.
  • @lilienne Reel Big Fish came to my college, I got tickets went in and felt it was too crowded and left after a couple songs.
  • @jhysmath you should have been at the dive bar!  :) I bet it was a smaller crowd. Sorry you missed out - they are definitely fun in concert. Still, I probably would have done the same as you - I hate crowded performance spaces, they take all the fun out of the show.

We don't really have concerts in Australia with only one artists unless they're massive like Eminem or Pink or someone like that. We have lots of festivals or we go to smaller venues with one or 2 artists that we call a "gig".

The favourite festival I went to was one in a ski village. It was the first year they ran it and they had no "headline" acts so there was maybe 5people in the crowd. The artists that were there were Alison Wonderland and Rüfüs (now known as Rüfüs Du Sol) - I'm not sure if you guys will know either of them as they are Australian artists that now spend most of their time in the US. Both of them were absolutely the most humble artists you've ever seen. Got right down to the level of the audience, thanks us profusely for coming, and just made it a wonderful show.
  • @mk2022x I saw him at the showbox in like 2012? 2011? Then at the Paramount about a year later and at Bumbershoot in 2016!
  • Nothing terribly exciting, but mostly bc I’ve been to way too many to remember. 😂

A lot of warped tour dates. Fall Out Boy a few times, PATD! a few times. Yellowcard. A lot of other similar bands. I’d say probably the coolest would be the Green Day/MCR show I went to once upon a time. I’ve also seen Depeche Mode twice with my husband which was pretty cool.
  • @wiseh my husband would be so jealous!
  • @dsmith211 I love Green Day 💚

John Mayer was great to see and when I was at my peak somewhat emo-middle school phase I went to see Avril Lavigne and that was really fun. Otherwise I really just see more local bands or see friends play at their gigs.
  • My husband and I flew to Colorado for his birthday in 2017 and saw Kacey Musgraves open for John Prine at Red Rocks. It was magical! This was before she blew up and she used to put on a much different (imo, better) kind of show. And John, well… he’s just a legend.

Also, every Beyonce show I’ve been to has been up there on the list. She always brings 100%.
