Emetophobia Support

Hi folks!

I have emetophobia (fear of vomit) and have been in therapy for many years to work on it so that I can deal with the biggest exposure I can imagine: pregnancy!

Now I'm pregnant and curious if there are other emetophobes here. Happy to commiserate, empathize, and swap our tips for coping.

Re: Emetophobia Support

  • Hi! My wife has emetephobia! I am so sorry you struggle with it, too. I am pregnant with our 4th baby. She has had two successful and wonderful pregnancies, and she has done great through both! You’ve got this!! 🥰

  • I'm also an emetophobe!  This is my second pregnancy.  My first was tough but I managed to get through it without actually being sick.  It is totally doable.  Hopefully therapy helps you through as well.  I'm still a bit worried but more relaxed than last time.

I am so thrilled to hear it!

Wow, that sounds ideal! I'm trying to steel myself to react with gratitude instead of fear when nausea hits.
  • Meeeee! I am super emetophobic and it actually played a huge part in me not wanting kids for most of my young life. Honestly, I'm still terrified of my child getting to the age where they just start projectile vomiting randomly, for no apparent reason or when they bring stomach viruses home from daycare and give them to us lol I've already told my husband that I can handle the pee and diaper blowouts, but he HAS to tackle the vomit.

As for myself, I am very much a baby when it comes to all things nausea and vomiting -- I HATE the feeling of needing to be sick and I hate being sick, HOWEVER...I'm finding that first trimester morning sickness is actually helping me to overcome this a little bit. It's gotten to the point that when I feel like I need to barf, I just let it happen. Usually it helps me to have some light music or a comfort show nearby while I'm in the bathroom praying to the porcelain god. It makes it...slightly less miserable of an experience than it is.

    Wow, that's really badass!
  • Also I forgot to mention that diclectin (diclegis in the US) has been really helpful for dealing with nausea during both pregnancies.
  • Alright, at week 9 it finally happened. I ate my breakfast banana and immediately puked it up. Luckily it was in the toilet, at home, with my husband reassuring me and making me ginger tea afterwards. I'm proud of not freaking out and just accepting what my body needs to do.
