@feather_heather i think it helps that he has a cousin who is 7 months old and he's been around him since he was born so he has a little reference for "baby". We'll see how he feels when his baby brother is born!
Regarding sleep, i take unisom every night.  I still am restless/half awake in the last couple of hours of the morning but my sleep is definitely better with it.  I think i'm going to add magnesium in too (when i can remember) both are pregnancy safe but you can always confirm with your OB

@feather_heather he has definitely said he can do one walk when he gets home from work which is nice! I WFH full time so it just makes sense that I do as much of the walking as I can since I am here haha. @inthewoods23 our dog is.....complicated haha. She is extremely anxious and is just now becoming okay with people (she is almost 7). She is also a huge flight risk and will run away at any chance she can get. She is typically very fast and elusive so she is hard to catch, though I don't know how fast she is as a tripod 😂 So, unfortunately, I don't trust anyone but MH, myself, and her daycare with her - which makes everything twice as hard haha.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: "Today, your baby is the size of a bowl of cereal." Like, a bowl as a regular serving size? What about when I'm really hungry? And what *kind* of cereal? Also, now I want a bowl of cereal. 😆

    Upcoming appointments: 20w OB 3/7, 21w anatomy re-scan with MFM 3/10

How are you feeling?: Mostly good. A little overwhelmed. Starting preschool tours, and I'm glad I'm starting now, because everyone has waitlist. (One is booked through November!)

    Rants/Raves: none

Questions: What's the most important thing you look for in a preschool?

GTKY: you've been given a blank check, what do you buy with it? New furniture. Still working with a post-college set from 2005. 😆 Not much else I need for now...

@inthewoods23 check with your OB. I flew on planes at maybe 25ish and 30ish weeks and both times she recommended wearing compression socks and standing for some amount of time each hour - i can't remember the specifics. Also as things progressed a little she had me take a copy of pertinent medical records with me just in case something happened when i was away from home

@velvetblue88 now all I want is cereal too! 😆

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: gameboy

Upcoming appointments: the 8th or 9th. It’ll be interesting seeing how big I’m measuring. At my dating scan I was “2 weeks behind” but then the next week I was just 1 week. I forgot to look/ask at my scan at 12 weeks. I’m fine with them keeping my original due date though. My 3rd was 10 days late so maybe this one will be “on time” lol

How are you feeling?: good. No real complaints. I get kind of moody but who doesn’t?

Rants/Raves: I had my half marathon on Sunday and it went really well! I ran 2:34 which is about average for my other pregnancy half marathons. I think i stopped 9-10x to pee which was annoying.

    Questions:

GTKY: you've been given a blank check, what do you buy with it? A new fully updated house! 😂

    Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days:
It actually changed today at my anatomy scan from 7/13 to 7/17 as far as her growth and measurements go. I’m a spiritual numbers weirdo though so I really like the date 7/17/22 so we’ll see.

    FTM/STM/STM+:
SEVENTH time mom! I’ve got kids ranging from the age of 20 all the way down to 2 years old and soon-to-be a newborn. 🥳 I’ve got ‘em all.

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out:
    PINK!

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of:
Baby is a box of dryer sheets today. I think a box of dryer sheets is smaller than a banana though so I’m not sure how accurate these fun facts are.

    Upcoming appointments:
I had my anatomy scan today and I was really excited to see the baby, hear her heartbeat and see her moving around in there.

    How are you feeling?:
My initial response is to say “ehhhh” but I think I’m better than “ehhh”. When I really force myself to think about how I feel, I feel good. I feel blessed. I’m thankful and I’m happy.

    Rants/Raves:
Rant is that because I’m 39 and considered a ‘geriatric’ pregnancy 😭😂, I have to see a high risk specialist for all my ultrasound appointments, and because of my age I have about 5 ultrasounds required throughout this pregnancy, and the high risk doctor is an hour away from home and always so slammed and the wait is always so long to see him. Today I waited 2.5 hours before I was seen! Even the ultrasound tech who has been there for 30 years was pissed off at how over booked they always are.

Rave is A. That the 2.5 hour wait to see my baby and hear that she’s doing well in there was totally worth it and B. That my sweet husband took off work to watch our two smaller kids while I was in this appointment, had lunch waiting for me when I was done AND since my feet have been so sore lately, also surprised me with a portable heated foot spa and some eucalyptus Epsom salt so I can soak my feet for a bit when I got home. *gushes. He’s heaven sent and I adore him.

Questions: Anyone else a geriatric pregnant patient? 🤣 I thought the medical term for it was so funny I made a joke to the doctor about the amount of ultrasounds I am required to have because I’m “geriatric” and he looked really embarrassed about it and said it’s a silly medical term used for anyone pregnant over 35.

GTKY: you've been given a blank check, what do you buy with it?
I would pay off our mortgage and expand our little bungalow a bit.

@oli9 omg the whole “geriatric” term is so absurd!! I’m 34 but will turn 35 before the baby comes. So my midwives already consider me “advanced maternal age”. It’s so funny to me because for most of my pregnancy I’ll be 34, and suddenly there’s this magical switch when you turn 35 and you’re old and high risk!

    oli9oli9 member
@zinnia19 yes! I thought it was so funny too. I even attempted to ask the doctor today what exactly they are concerned about with the baby that they need to do an ultrasound at 32 weeks and again at 35 weeks and he really didn’t have an answer other than “anatomy again and growth” and I halfway joked but I’m actually kinda interested in understanding,  “does the baby grow differently because I’m 39” and he just laughed and said “no”… ummm sir, so why am I geriatric? 😂😂

@oli9 I’m old too! The new term is “advanced maternal age”. Thankfully my OBs just say “if you’re over 35” instead of labeling 🤣 I’m 37

My previous OB explained it to me once and it originated something about the risk of having a baby with some genetic condition after a certain age versus the risk of testing for it with the tech they had then and pretty much said most of the increase in testing over 35 is nonsense

    @velvetblue88
our kiddo turned 3 in November and we started him ar a Montessori preschool last august. Part of the reason was previous good experience ar a Montessori childcare center in our last state and constant issues at a traditional daycare setting in that area. It was like WOAH you are treating me more respectfully and as if I’m not a nut for how I parent. The more I learned about Montessori the more I liked the primary philosophy and it fit into our general parenting. All that to say I think there’s a few things I’d look for/ask. - class size and teacher ratio, how they spend their day, freee time vs structures time, how they handle discipline, how meal and snack times are handled, time spent outdoors, individualized support if they are behind or ahead to class in learning goals, how involved you can be or how frequent you get updates.
There’s been some recent research that has come out that kids in preschools that are too structured or too focused on rote learning / some early intervention models actually result in poorer educational outcomes and dislike of school by the end of elementary compared to programs focused more on play and art and outdoors. Our school also has a yoga instructor come in weekly and they do Spanish instruction weekly. The last thing that was a consideration for us was the hours - as we are a 2 income house hold

@runnergirl2018 I’m glad I’m not the only advanced one in my class. 😬 The high risk doctor is the only doctor who uses the label ‘geriatric’ pregnancy, that I’ve caught onto at least. It made me laugh to see it on my chart.

Thank you for mentioning what your last OB said because I really feel like the extent of testing done to us ‘advanced patients’ is not very necessary, but I’m also not an expert so how would I know what’s necessary or not, however when I ask the professionals about it I just get bewildered looks and “it’s just your age” answers but no offers to indulge in on what my age has to do with any of it. I’m not going to complain too much about the extra ultrasounds though because I do love seeing my baby any chance I get so being geriatric or advanced comes with its perks I guess.
  • Options
@oli9 a friend of mine that recently had a baby over 35 said her OB let her opt out of some the additional testing because of it not being really necessary.
In my case I was also just diagnosed with marginal cord insertion and the main thing extra there is twice weekly NST after 32 weeks which is also the over 35 rec and given the MCI it makes sense to do that
we also like to do genetic testing too so it was nice that I’m old now and that’s easily covered 🤣

@velvetblue88 I echo what @runnergirl2018 said - I has our DS on the list for a nature-base Montessori school before we moved states. I lead Tinkergarten classes and we pull a lot from the Montessori curriculum. That said, our 5yo does extremely well in a "typical" prek setting so all is good. To add some thoughts/questions to what runnergirl suggested: I would ask if and how they are evaluated throughout the year, 'discipline" or behavioral intervention strategies that they use, communication with parents and/or parent-teacher conferences, goals or milestones that they need to meet prior to moving up to K, skills that they plan to work on (table manner, potty clean up, shoe tying, name writing etc.) so that we can also work on those in tandem at home.

@runnergirl2018 I have nothing helpful in the way of managing your MCI anxiety.  That has to be nerve-wracking.  I hope you get reassuring info from your care team that helps reduce your worry.

@sunshineandlemons I mean, if someone gaaaavveee you the blank check, I think that means they want you to have it and be happy without any moral dilemma about returning it.  At least, that's how I'd choose to interpret that, lol!

@jellie603 good luck on Friday!  I hope you're able to get some helpful answers about your delivery options and expectations.

@oli9 I noticed the other day that my file is flagged as advanced maternal age even though I won't even be 35 yet when I deliver.  I mean, really guys!?  I wondered though if the fact that we also have an IVF flag on our file so default to increased testing for that didn't play a role.  I'll have to ask next time I see my OB.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of:  I'm a day behind @inthewoods23 so the hand altoid thing.  Which also makes no sense to me because like 2 weeks ago it was basically the same fact but swap the altoid for an m&m, and they seem like they're relatively the same size, but whatever.

Upcoming appointments:  OK, I'm sure this time. - the fetal echo is 3/16.  I also have an OB appt a couple weeks after that for a standard check and the wonderfully fun GD testing.

How are you feeling?:  I don't even know anymore.  Pregnant.  DS also got me sick, which is lovely, but we had tested him so at least I know it's not Covid!

Rants/Raves:  I made it to March, woohoo!  This was my official cut off date for the earliest I can leave my job, lol.  I don't plan on walking in and handing in my notice tomorrow or anything, but it's nice to know I can whenever I want now.

Not really a rant.  Except I guess I didn't realize that my VBAC plan would freak H out a little bit, so now I have to do some additional research to calm his fears that it's not "more dangerous" than just doing another CS.  The whole 50% of VBACs end up in another CS thing is what's freaking him out, but in my mind the alternative is a 100% chance of a repeat C, sooooo.  I think the process leading up to the CS is where he's really concerned though.  Due to the circumstances, he got the brunt of the panic with my impromptu CS last time around, so I get where he's coming from in not wanting a repeat performance - I'm not so keen on that idea either.

    Questions:  natm

GTKY: you've been given a blank check, what do you buy with it?
Oh man, definitely paying off my student loans... and maybe adding in enough extra to buy a patch of land and build a house.

Edit - to correct my numerous typos
  • Options
@zwink1 - from what i've read in order of safest after 1 c-section it is: VBAC, scheduled c-section, failed VBAC resulting in c-section.  It also really varies for why the first c-section happened. You can check out this calculator too - https://mfmunetwork.bsc.gwu.edu/web/mfmunetwork/vaginal-birth-after-cesarean-calculator
We are still undecided on repeat c-section or vbac, but part might hav e to do with the marginal cord insertion nonsense for us

The nurse that did my intake added Advanced Maternal Age to my diagnosis and when I saw it on MyChart I was like, What the hell? I'm 32.
  • Options
    oli9oli9 member
@stardustskies really?! I wonder how they calculate what advanced maternal age actually is.
  • Options
@runnergirl2018 that's what I've read too.  I think his big fear is that I'll end up in that third category.  On paper, I'm a good candidate for a VBAC, and my OB feels like a repeat of prior circumstances is slim, but I don't think he's finding that info all that reassuring.
  • Options
@oli9 Honestly I think it was just a mistake on her part because I haven't seen it on my chart since that first visit with her. AMA is considered 35+.
  • Options
@oli9 🙋‍♀️ Geriatric here too (36). I had my first at 30 and still generally feel pretty young so it’s always a shock to the system to hear that lol.
  • Options
@jellie603 @runnergirl2018 Thanks for the tips! I have most of those questions in a spreadsheet (I'm a spreadsheet nerd). I only had 4 preschools on my list to look at. 1 is a Montessori, and it's booked up until at least November. Not sure on the price yet, but we're also a dual-income household, so I'm not really worried about that. I just want to feel comfortable with the curriculum, and I like the play-based learning I remember from when I was in pre-school.

    @sunshineandlemons at 39 I feel pretty young as well! I know I’m pushing 40 though, but I don’t feeeeeeeeel 40. Haha.

It is pretty shocking that the medical world considers women pregnant in their 30s geriatric. I think 30s is a cool time to have kids. I had my first at 18 and I wouldn’t really recommend that.
