On top of forgetting my own anniversary, I totally forgot this week was Reading Across America week! So here's my reminder to all you STM+ mommas with school age babies, they are probably going to get to dress up for Dr. Suess all week. Usually I'm on top of things and I'm "that teacher" who dresses up with the kids (tu-tus and all, lol) but I'm dropping the ball on everything this year!
@sph97 we didn't get any notes about dress up! Honestly I dread these weeks 🤣 I can do crazy sock day, which is now every day since DD just picks two socks and they never match. But trying to get her to wear a certain color or outfit? Forget it. Not a battle I want to fight with her.
@pajamstagrams I love these weeks! We wear uniforms so it's always a nice break for the students and they absolutely love when the teachers dress up with them lol. I'm hoping to be back in a K or 1st G classroom next year, because it was always so much fun helping them get ready for things like this! We'd usually make hats in the class or so-on they can wear for the day, a good excuse to get crafty in the classroom lol.
@sph97 They don't do that in my kids school. Normally I'm that mom that goes all out but I don't have it in me this year so I'm glad haha we do have March is Reading Month which usually has all kinds of extra stuff though.
Here's a PSA to anchor down your furniture. We moved bedrooms and anchored the kids dressers but didn't get around to ours. Well the girls last night pulled out all the drawers and sat in our dresser, which caused it to tip over. They're ok, 6yo was pinned underneath and it bonked the 2yo in the head. Thankfully I was in the room and I don't know how I moved so fast and lifted it off of her but omg my heart dropped so fast.

@jackdetroit that’s so scary! The same thing happened to us - we hadn’t mounted one dresser because DH even had a hard time moving it - it was massive and so freaking heavy, and DD2 decided to scale it and it tipped over. She got pinned, but the drawers below her kept the bulk of the dresser off of her. She did get walloped in the head with a piggy bank though. Definitely worth the extra time and holes in the wall to get stuff mounted ASAP
well DD1 has a massive ear infection in both ears. And never complained about her ear hurting! Like, child…tell me these things! Instead she wakes me up at 11 last night complaining of a headache at the base of her skull so mom brain goes to the worst possible scenarios. Well, this AM I pulled a chunk of wax out of her ear and she started running a fever, so I took her to the doctor. They looked at me like I was some terrible mom for not bringing her in earlier until DD goes “it doesn’t hurt unless you pull on it like this!” 😂
@skc040512 all of DDs ear infections have been surprises for us. We had no idea. Even this most recent one, we only knew to take her in because her tube was draining. She wasn't bothered by it at all.
@pajamstagrams I shouldn’t be surprised - I was the same way as a kid. The only majorly surprising part was that the doctor said her eardrum looked close to rupture 😳 like wtf kid, that has to hurt!
@skc040512 oh no poor thing!! Most of my kids ear infections have been like that too - there’s never the telltale sign of “hey mom my ear hurts” except for when they’ve had swimmers ear in the summer!
@skc040512 ear infections are so weird! I feel like half the time I take DD to the doctor for something else, it turns out she has an ear infection. That’s crazy her ear was so bad and never said anything! Hope she feels better soon.
My daughter comments on how big my belly is getting every day. Which is fine and dandy, coming from her. It’s an observation of change and I don’t mind it one bit. I did say, jokingly, yesterday “I hope you notice just as much and comment “wow mama, your belly gets smaller and smaller every day!” After baby is born too”. She seemed like she got it, but apparently she didn’t. This morning she said “wow! Your belly is smaller today!” “No, hun. No it’s not. It’s just as big or bigger than yesterday. My belly won’t get smaller until after baby sister is born.” Met with a confused look.
@b_1029 yes I keep thinking this! Being due 5/6 I could possibly have an April baby. My first 2 were 39+6 and 40+1 though so I don’t have much reason to think she’d be a week early, but it’s definitely within the realm of possibility.
My DD has started to take my phone and take photos of the cats and me. Holy moly. The angle she takes of me at 31 weeks is scary, and yes @b_1029 very real that next month will most likely be baby month with that 5/1 due date
@b_1029@happynapper I know, right?? My due date is May 3. I was 5 days early with DD2 so that puts me at a mama of 3 next month! DH is in COMPLETE denial of this. And, knowing that I’m preparing to go at the end of April an option, I bet DD3 will stretch into week 41 or something foolish…
Back from our school vacation trip to visit friends. Was such a fun trip but I'm glad to be home. 6/7 hrs each way gave me so much anxiety. Getting back to our normal school routines this week and so grateful for a bit of morning downtime while the girls are at preschool.
My 2.5 yr old has started kissing my belly and saying hi to baby which is very cute. This morning though she kept poking me in the boobs and saying 1, 2 baby . Nope kiddo boobs are not more bellies hahaha
@annashaf Yeah exactly. These kiddos never do what you think they’ll do 😆 with my second I was dilating at 36 weeks and even my OB said, I don’t think you’re going to be waiting until 40 to meet this one…. She’s the one that came at 40+1. Soooo many eye rolls to myself the whole day she was due, like I just knew she had to prove us all wrong 😂
@happynapper@annashaf my husband thinks I’m nuts for getting my bag ready, getting DDs backpack ready (if it’s motn) and baby bag. He’s like “we’ve got all the time”
same man who didn’t back his bag and then i was told to go to hospital straight from Ob and he’s frantic around the house shoving sh*t in a bag.
I’ve been consistently measuring 2 weeks ahead this whole pregnancy and have a due date of 5/7. Not getting my hopes up that she comes a bit early but I wouldn’t be surprised. I would however be screwed because I still don’t think it’s sunk in that I’m having another kid
@And846@happynapper@b_1029 I don’t want to deal with the eye rolls, so I’m getting my “bag” ready on a back shelf hidden in our closet. If go-time comes early, I can literally pick up the lot and shove it in a bag. Because I’ll be using his gym bag and if I attempt to suggest I take that from him now, he’d have a bird. He said to me the other day when I was organizing the baby’s closet “I don’t know why you’re doing that stuff now. We still have many months”. No. No, sir, we do not.
@MrsLaLaBug i think another thread you mentioned that your kids were off for marsh gras week. Does this mean it’s this week you eat king cake?
Girrrrrrl who you kiddin!! We been eatin’ king cake since January 6th (12th night/Kings Day) over here!! 😂😂😂 I bought the last one of the season yesterday and it’s already half gone. They are like cookie monsters of king cake over here 😂😂
@MrsLaLaBug I haven't had the first king cake this year! We usually get at least one, but everywhere around us has been selling out and I'm terrible at pre-ordering. King Cake Blue Bell ice cream is pretty amazing too if you haven't tried it yet!!
@sph97 when I come up and visit all my Mississippi fam during MG I am always required to bring no less than 2 king cakes at the least. Always one for my mom and one for my aunt, and sometimes my cousins ask too 😂😂😂 I usually special order one for Thanksgiving for them and get my mom one as her birthday cake too. They tell me Kroger and Rameys make ok ones but they can’t hold a candle to our NOLA bakeries lol 💜💚💛
@MrsLaLaBug We order through Strange Brew, they have the best compared to what else we have available but we have to drive an hour to get it! Still doesn't touch an authentic Nola king cake though!!
@MrsLaLaBug Flame Free Tuesday Confession, I have never had king cake? Had never heard of it until my last BMB. Someone recently asked in my local mom group where to get one locally and it was crickets.
@happynapper 😱 😱 you gotta fix that! (Although it's been years for me since it's hard to find a GF one unless it's homemade) It might be pretty regional. I'm not in NOLA but we still have Mardi Gras events around the city, etc and king cakes in every grocery store.
@happynapper@karisahamdi I’m a southern girl born and raised and I’ve never heard of king cake either. To be fair, I basically live under a rock, so I know of things going on but very few details about them.
