Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Horrible sleeper!!

my LO has never been a good sleeper. He is 9 mos old and never slept longer than 6 hours in the night. On average he gets 10-11 hrs of sleep at night, but wakes up to nurse 5 times. I’ve been able to reduce the length of each nursing session, but I can’t get him to drop any. He also will only sleep if I am laying down next to him. So every night I’m in bed with him by 7pm. Ive tried 6 different sleep methods (even CIO...after 3 hrs of non stop crying I couldn’t do it anymore.)
is anyone else going through this? I feel so alone because none of my friends with similar aged babies went through this.
I’m desperate for new ideas!!!

Re: Horrible sleeper!!

  • I'm so sorry to hear that! What is his napping schedule like, his wake times, bedtime?
  • Loading the player...
  • I'm on the same boat and feel super alone too, everyone thinks I created the problem!
  • Have you tried giving him a pacifier? I was in the same boat with my first (no pacifier). Now my second is a great sleeper (pacifier for naps and bedtime only)
  • I have the same problem. My 9 month old refuses to take a bottle and has to sleep next to me. She has to have one foot out of the blanket too. Everyone says just make her take a bottle. When I finally got her to take one, she'd only take one. So I'd pump and it would be a waste. She won't take a pacifier either. I totally feel your pain.
  • girl!!!!!!! I am right there with you!! My son is 9 months and NEVER been a good sleeper.. he wakes up a midnight for a bottle and he’s formula feed and on table food.. also wakes up around 2 am and 4 am just either crying or just sitting up! Also still in his bassinet in my room because he will not sleep in his crib and he wakes up so many times at night! I am beyond exhausted and I have no clue what to do!! I feel like I’m the only one dealing with this as well
  • I thought I would share a resource that really helped me. I’m a first time mom to a 10 month old and he’s started sleeping through the night. “The Happy Sleeper” book has been a game changer. Hope this helps!
  • i feel you! My baby is almost 11 months old now. I still breastfeed, we cosleep. She still wakes up 2 to 4 times a night. I’ve been feeling it more now that I’m back at work. It’s rough. But I just really think babies will eventually sleep better on their own when they’re ready. So I’m just riding it out and hold zero expectations. It’s gonna be what it’s gonna be.
  • This book was a game changer for me. My 9 month old was also waking up at least 3 times to nurse. It guides you on how to wean the night nursing and how to get then to teach themselves how to self soothe.
