February Randoms

Because sometimes it gets a little random.

Re: February Randoms

  • Putting this here because I don’t quite think it fits the name thread.
So I have the girl name we didn’t use last time since it was a boy, but I’ve been hesitant to add it to the list. For some reason I’ve been hung up thinking that it feels like a consolation prize or less special because it wasn’t thought of specifically for this baby. I asked two friends their opinions and I thought they were really helpful.
Friend 1: Time changes preferences. It’s not a consolation prize if you didn’t have a girl the last time. You’re over thinking this. (She knows me well.)
Friend 2: When I finally got to use the name that I had chosen for my daughter, it made me feel like I had known her since before she came here. (To which I responded you can’t say that to a pregnant person and then cried a little.)
But I thought I’d share if anyone else was having doubts or thoughts about previous name picks.

  • @fluteling we’re using a name that I’ve suggested to DH for all three kids and was shot down each time. I asked him what changed and he said this is the baby meant for that name.  So sort of like what friend number two said, not a consolation, just wasn’t meant to be used yet.
  • @fluteling I have always planned to use Reign as my daughters middle name (it’s my moms middle) and when my mom told me she didn’t want me to use it I felt like a sense of grief for not getting to have the name I had always pictured for my baby girl. Yes I did plan to use it for my son if he were a girl, but he wasn’t so like it’s not as if keeping from using it will do anyone any good. But I decided to use Reign anyways regardless of my moms opinion soooo😌
  • I need to vent.  I'm tired of being grumpy and angry.  My kids are driving me crazy with whining, bickering, and saying "mom" every 30 seconds.  I've just entered a period of months of solo parenting and now is not the time for me to lose my shit.  I feel like I can't get out of the cycle of being angry and frustrated in order to spend quality time with them that they need for everyone to reset.  I hate being an angry mom, and I'm modeling terrible behavior.  My threenager is the cause of most issues.  Three is the worst.  Sigh.  I've spend all morning googling and reading parenting articles instead of working.
  • @KFrob that's tough and I so feel you on all your feelings. You said you're solo parenting for a while, but do you have an opportunity to leave the kids for a few hours with a sitter/relative/friend to get some alone time? If you're looking for some good IG accounts to follow, I like "biglittlefeelings", "dr.siggie" and "healthiest_baby" for some good quick tips on kids behavior and how to control it. Sending you all the hugs.

  • Thanks @Tulips29! luckily it’s not an everyday solo parenting deal so I will get a chance for a break, but even when DH is home I feel like I’m pulling the extra weight since he’s exhausted from working a second job.  DH got me a gift card for a massage so I have that booked for Saturday afternoon and I can’t wait.
  • edited February 2022
@KFrob I was going to suggest a massage. One thing I learned is that we all need our mom time to relax and recharge.
  • Saw this today, hilarious!

  • Are second children wild because the first child keeps squishing them in utero?

  • @romeoandjuliet146 lol seems accurate.

@binxybaby honestly, it’s true for a lot of people I know. My second is the wild child as well but she’s so fun at the same time. It’s fun to see the her wild side against my son. They are truly ying and yang.

  • Does anyone have thinning hair and/or now have unruly baby hairs around the hairline? I know this is common postpartum, but I'm 2 years postpartum and all of a sudden started noticing crazy baby hairs that curl up around my hairline and they are driving me crazy. Also, one side of my hairline is definitely thinner than the other. Curious if anyone know of any pregnancy-safe solutions because my hair has never looked worse :disappointed:

  • @tulips29 I think scalp massage is supposed to stimulate growth. I don't have thinning hair but I have super super fine hair so if you need product recommendations for volume I'm your gal.
  • @KFrob I'll take all the recommendations! My hair has always been pretty thick but now I'm noticing it's thinning, especially around the hairline. It also just falls flat and is in general very blah.

  • @Tulips29 I’m having the same issues! I’m scared that after giving birth it will get worse 😭 I’m also trying to look for pregnancy safe solutions, if I find any I will let you know.
  • @tupils29 For shampoo and conditioner I like Sebastian Volupt, Nexxus Diametress, and Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Lemon Sage Thickening.  For products I love love love Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray for air drying but its super pricey so I usually buy the little travel sized one.  It gives texture and volume but isn't sticky.  I also love Virtue Volumizing Primer, Aquage Uplifting Foam, and Fekkia Full Blown Volume Texture Spray.  I feel like I've been through a 1,000 products to get to those.  I always wait for Ulta to have a good sale and coupons too.
  • My hairdresser said that she saw a lot of women’s hair thin during the pandemic because of stress, so a lot of her clients have very short hair that is now growing in all over their heads as things are getting better.

  • @KFrob great list, I will look into all these options. Thank you! If you have any great frizz-taming ones too, I'll take em

@shoarmie99 ugh, that's just annoying that we take yet another hit due to all the stress. Hopefully it starts growing back in soon!

  • @Tulips29 you're welcome!  No suggestions on frizz sorry!
  • I asked my MFM today about this hair situation. She said it's likely not postpartum hair loss because I'm 2 years out from last kid. But she did say the little baby hairs are likely hair re-growth that's coming in all weird like this. The thinning patch she said can seem like hair loss, but likely just weird hair growth and that it should just resolve on its own. But then postpartum hair might seem like it's falling out more, so just to watch out for that.

  • Ran a 5k this morning and, wow, my nipples didn't get this sensitive last time. Ow. 😩
  • @mauvelousone I feel like mine are extra sensitive this round too! I just assumed it’s cause I’m weaning DD3 and my boobs are super confused.

Has anyone weaned while pregnant? This is new territory for me. I could use any tips or what to expect.  We’re down to once a day in the morning and just want to be done but I’m afraid of how the girls will react being pregnant.
  • @mauvelousone I weaned my 17 month old back in December. It actually was easier than I expected. He's still really attached to me and only me, but I don't have to deal with the added pressure of breastfeeding while pregnant.
  • @mauvelousone Mine are very sensitive as well. I don't think they were like this last time.

  • I am trying not to snap at people today but also I’m not here to entertain anyone. I’m sorry the other people are bored, but I am exhausted and have stuff to do that doesn’t include them and uuugh I feel guilty about saying no but NO.
  • I’ve been MIA for a while! We had a family wedding last weekend and then headed out to Disney finally! We got back last night. It was so much fun but I was exhausted. Glad we came back on a Friday so we had the whole weekend to recover.

So my partners grandfather passed on Monday. On Friday they were having a viewing for him before cremation. My partner told me he didn’t want/need me to go. I took the day off anyways to go with him in case he changed his mind and wanted me there or to just spend the rest of the day with him and his family. Well we got there and they were going in in groups and I was very relieved because the last thing on the earth I wanted to do was go in. However, his mom and grandma and dad had already gone in and none of his siblings were there, so it was cousins and uncles and he wasn’t going with them. He waited until the very end and he then realized he would have to go in alone. I said “I’ll go with you if you need me” and he said okay. I am traumatized. I understand some people this is normal for or this helps their grieving process but I’m not one of those people and that is not how I was raised. But I can’t talk to him about how seeing his grandpa has negatively affected me so bad especially since I volunteered to do it so he wouldn’t be alone.

  • @marionberry19

It is difficult seeing someone like that. I understand the kind of feelings you can have afterwards since I went through it last year.

Sorry you had to experience that and sorry for your husband's loss.

  • @marionberry19
I’m so sorry for how deeply this affected you. I’ve had the experience of being present for my partner during an extremely traumatic experience for him and having to keep it together. Just remember you do have people to lean on for support so you can continue to reflect that support back to him.

  • @marioberry19 Hugs  I have no advice but I'm sorry you're dealing with that.
  • Welp. I officially can’t find a bra in my size that’s not $70.  I think I’m going to need to stay squeezed into my current ones until I grow into my giant postpartum ones.
  • @KFrob I gave up on real bras a long time ago. What about like those stretchy no wire ones or like a sports bra?

  • @Tulips29 I hate those. They give me uniboob. And even those are hard to come by since they’re small, medium, large. I found motherhood has them for a “full bust” so if I get desperate I might go that route and try one.
  • Well I saw the pulmonologist today and the good news is my lungs look great. The bad/weird news is I have acid reflux so bad it’s impacting my vocal cords which is impacting my airways and now I have to go to speech therapy.
    Pregnancy is weird, guys.
  • @fluteling glad your lungs look great! Sorry you’re reflux is so bad though. Wowzers!
  • @Tulips29 Me too. I ended up wearing the stretchy nursing bras from Target.
  • @KFrob I give you kuddos for wearing real ones. They feel so uncomfortable for me and everything just keeps cutting in in all the wrong places.

@romeoandjuliet146 which ones from target do you like? I got some random ones on Amazon a while back that are more or less decent. And I got shapermint ones last year that are my main go tos.

@fluteling oh gosh, I’m sorry about the acid reflux and having to go to speech therapy. But good thing your lungs are clear!

  • Oh gosh @fluteling you’ve had such a rough go of it. I’m happy for your good news and so sorry for your bad news.

I’ve always been very small chested so now I just have normal sized boobs 😂
  • @Tulips29  I get the Auden Nursing Seamless Sleep Bras.

@fluteling Is there any medicine you can take? I get acid reflux. Sometimes it makes me throw up. Sorry you have it so bad.
  • @romeoandjuliet146 yes, I have a prescription now so we’ll see if it helps. I’m not exactly sure if the vocal cord damage is reversible or just manageable. Hm.
