Re: Product Spotlight: Bath Time

  • There is nothing cuter than a baby in the bath. I love when their little toes stick out of the water.

We started with a hard plastic tub that sat over the sink until he could sit up. It really saved our backs being able to bring him up to a normal standing height.

We then moved to an inflatable tub that we used in the bathtub which was really great so we didnt use so much water and the little bump/guide inside helped him sit up:

  • I tried like 3 different types of baby baths with my first. Definitely don't recommend the foam flower that sits in the sink. That thing is a pain to squeeze the water out/ dry so it doesn't mold. The one I ended up liking the best is actually the one in the cute gif!

and looks like the have a different version now too - Summer Right Height Bath Tub – https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X6H63Y8/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_KNVT49NRB9BK03PBNBKX

  • We used an angelcare one that was a hand me down and was just fine so we'll use it again

A friend offered us the foam flower thing and admitted it was a pain to dry out so i passed

We also got an inflatable one and hated it, my kiddo was sitting but would slide down too easily and by the time he was sitting and very stable i felt like he was too big for it.
Open to other ideas for when he gets too big for the angelcare one or is ready to bath seated more - bonus if theres anything I can use to bath baby and 3yr old toge4ther
  • We used the skiphop moby smart sling tub for the first few months (for the first month we used it right on the counter then moved it into the tub when she was bigger) and then once she got too big for that we used the same inflatable tub that @cmhme posted! We loved the inflatable tub - we had one at home, and at our camper and it was great for travelling!
  • I'm so glad the flower thing has been mentioned because I've looked at that in the past since we have a fairly large kitchen sink that I always figured we'd bathe our kid in. Sounds like it's more of an annoyance than it's worth.

  • I don't own a baby tub either. Before my kids can sit up, I bathe with them and occasionally will shower with them. Babies do not need a bath every night! Not even close. It's not really good for their skin to bathe them too much. Once they can sit up, I just sit them right in the tub or I use a little plastic container I have. No fancy baby tub needed.

Also, do not buy those stupid tiny baby towels. They outgrow them so fast and there is barely enough to wrap them in, to begin with. If anything, buy the hooded towels that will take them well into toddlerhood, or just buy a few more regular towels.

I personally love the Dove sensitive skin brand baby wash. Whatever you get, just try to get something sensitive/allergy-friendly and don't buy a ton. Especially if skin issues run in the family.

Also, if you can wait 24 hours post-birth to bathe them, it's really good for their skin and breastfeeding/bonding. The article below gives a rundown on everything bathing with newborns.

  • @inthewoods23, my sister had one from her kids, so I borrowed it for DS when he was little.  I will say, I did actually like having it as an extra layer of padding both for when he was super tiny doing the sink bath and for him to sit on in the full tub when he got bigger.  That said, I'm not sure it was really worth the hassle for the drying reasons everyone mentioned above.  Particularly with a summer baby - it wasn't such an issue with DS because he was fall/winter so drying it out wasn't a problem, but I can imagine how musty that thing would get if not properly dried during the summer.

We bought a Primo eurobath when DS got a little bigger, and while that thing is a pain to store, it worked great.   It's actually made to be used from day 1, so we'll probably just use that this time around.
  • I feel like I sound like the crazy person in every one of these threads...but we mostly used a smallish Rubbermaid storage tote 😂

If you are looking to save money (or, like me, spend more of your budget on baby clothes and cute things on etsy) just cruise right on by the whole baby bath section at the store 🤷🏻‍♀️
  • @rubyrose_0919 Me too! I forgot how little “stuff” I used. It’s just all so short lived and most of it just isn’t necessary….. my youngest is only 2 but none of the baby stuff has been in the house for over a year now.

  • We bought the cheap bath that has the newborn sling on it. As far as bath products I'm obsessed with pipette baby, I buy everything from them it smells so good too!
  • We used this tub for the first few month until DS could sit up. I really liked that we could put it on the counter and let it drain into the sink when we were done (or put it in the bathtub too). Then I just bought a rubber mat for the bottom of the bathtub so he wouldn’t slip all over the place. The only thing I don’t like about the mat is that it does start to grow mold on it if you don’t get it dry all the way.

Along the lines of what @tuxielove93 said, we only bath our son once a week (more if he’s REALLY dirty). And I’ve also heard that you should stay away from lavender scented soaps/products because they can cause disruptions to the endocrine system and cause abnormal breast growth (another mom in my old BMB had this happen with her DD). I personally like the Honest Co Sweet Orange vanilla scent the best!

  • I’ve never used a baby bath tub with any of my six kids. I would either bathe with them (on my chest) or sponge bathe them on the bed or changing area until they were old enough to sit up and then I’d just sit them straight in the tub in an inch of water on a non slip mat. I did consider getting that sink flower thing because it looked like a cute way to sponge bathe but because of the reviews on it here, I won’t be doing that (thank you!). I think I’ll stick to what I’ve been doing for years.
