On Thursday afternoon I started feeling regular contractions. These contractions felt like light period pains, I was out & about so I didn't time or track them. I got home around 6 & still felt them so I decided to hydrate, empty my bladder & lie down on my left side (like they instruct you to do) to ensure they weren't Braxton Hicks. The contractions continued but didn't intensify. After about an hour they felt stronger & closer together (still only maybe a 4/10 on the pain scale) so I started to time them. They were consistently 2-3 minutes apart from 7-9 pm. But they weren't getting noticeably stronger. I was told to go to the hospital when contractions were 5 mins apart & 1 min long, for 1 hour. Mine were 3 mins apart & 1 min long for 2 hours. So I told my husband even though they weren't strong I thought we were supposed to go. So we went. When they checked me I was only 1 cm dilated & 50% effaced. They had me walk around for 20 mins & rechecked, I remained the same. The contractions remained the same. So they sent me home. Saying I was probably in latent labor & to return if my water broke, contractions got too hard to talk thru, or seemed to be on top of one another.
All night Thursday & all day Friday the contractions remained consistent. 3 mins apart. 4/10 on the pain scale. All the time. I walked, bounced on the ball, watched youtube videos & did exercises to try to induce progress. Nothing changed. I did have a little bit of bloody show & mucus which I thought may be a good sign. I had some of this on Wednesday as well, before the contractions started being consistent.
On Saturday I was feeling defeated. Everything remained the same. I thought "how long can this go on?" I decided to get out of the house & hang out with a friend. We walked around Target for a few hours. During this time my contractions got stronger (5-6/10) & I felt them more in my back. When we got home I rested & they remained stronger than before. I thought maybe we were getting closer. Sometimes I could hardly tell when these contractions stopped & started, they seemed almost constant. But still not very strong. So I waited. Around 1 am I started leaking clear fluid. Once when I went to the bathroom & emptied my bladder I felt like I could keep pushing this fluid out. It was clear & scentless. I thought maybe my water was trickling. So I told my husband I thought we should go back to the hospital. The fluid tested negative for amniotic fluid, must've been thin discharge or something. They rechecked me & I was still at 1!! 60% effacement. I was in disbelief. How could I be having all these constant contractions, feeling all this tightness & seeing other signs & be making almost no progress??? I was once again sent home. This time the doctor on staff told me they were Braxton Hicks despite me explaining that they break all the rules of Braxton Hicks. They don't stop with changing position or relaxing, they are patterned, etc.
Now we've made it to the end of the evening on Sunday with things staying about the same despite all of my at home induction efforts. I'm drained. I'm kinda sad. I'm ready & confused.
So I'm here to ask you: did anyone else have a labor that started this way? How long did it last? What did you do to speed things along? I've read all the induction tactics but what worked for YOU? Tell me your story!! I just wanna hear I'm not alone. Save the "baby will come when they're ready". I get it. I just feel like I don't know anyone else who has had such a slow progressing labor & I'm not the type to wait around & do nothing. I plan to call my doc when the office opens tomorrow & see if she has any advice as well but for now, I'm asking the internet. TIA
