Mental Health

How is everyone doing mentally ? The pandemic, new year, new baby. It's a lot. I am a big advocate for mental health, with my son I had bad pre and post party depression and anxiety. I just want everyone the have a safe space to talk.

For me right now my concern is trying to handle to not feeling good while also taking care of my son. I'm afraid failing him.

Re: Mental Health

  • Weekly check in is a great place for this.

  • Overwhelmed... anxious... SO guilty that im a useless potato right now and my husband is doing absolutely everything around the house and to help me. Even stuff that i know he despises doing but he's not complaining at all. This is totally not meant to be a humble brag about him, im legit just weirdly anxious and stressed and feeling so guilty and worried that Im not pulling my weight. Which logically i know is not true but i just cant shake the feeling :(

@Katek819 this is my first so even just thinking about doing this with another kiddo around seems impossible. Major kudos to you.
  • Oh yea the guilt starts early. My hubby has been doing the same and i remember hating feeling like this with my son. Especially since I’m a stay at home mom. Luckily he has been on Christmas break and today and tomorrow are snow days so i get him a couple extra days before he goes back.
  • Thanks for starting this. I think it's a nice idea to have a mental health check in.

I'm doing ok depending on the day. I feel a bit like I'm failing my two kiddos with how tired I am and nauseous. We haven't told them yet but once they know I will feel slightly better. My daughter gets really worried about me when I'm throwing up.
  • I'm trying to get back into a daily meditation habit. I had an okay one before winter break but between the nausea and having everyone home it sort of stopped.
  • @wisewitch222 I started a meditation practice in the middle of 2020 when I thought I was going to lose my mind being home with the whole family and trying to hold down my full time job without daycare. It’s helped my anxiety and sleep so much. Do you have a favorite app, or do you meditate on your own?
  • @maggiemadeit I used Calm for a little in 2018 when I was first learning how to meditate, and then after I got the gist I switched to a free meditation timer app. The kind of ethereal background music on those apps helps me keep focused.
  • Thank you for posting this. I feel similar - there’s just a lot and trying to navigate the pandemic while pregnant, having a toddler at home and teaching full time is like mental gymnastics. Sigh. I like the suggestions here about using meditation. I may give it a try! Sending my best to anyone who is struggling with their mental health at the moment.
  • @starkette I completely understand. the world is bringing on a lot right now. Delaware is getting really bad with covid. indoor mask mandate back on, no support person at the ultrasound (terrified to be alone if we miscarry again) father in law, neighbor and sister all have covid right now. The main hospital in the state just put out a emergency plan or something to their employees saying all this scary stuff about staffing. My friend has worked there 20 years and has never seen it happen before so yea this blows!
  • @Katek819 Marylander here, but my parents retired to the DE beach. My mom was just updating me on it. A good friend from high school used to be an ICU nurse at Beebe in Lewes but left mid last year. I don’t know how the healthcare workers are hanging in there.

  • @malloryfrommn girl. Same. I am just so tired and nauseous. But I know second trimester is coming and it is so much better if I can just make it until then.
  • @starkette just sending love your way. I have faith that you will make it. We will be here cheering you on each week. You are doing everything you possibly can, you are already such a good mama to this little baby!
  • @starkette I can't even imagine the feeling. We are here to go through this journey with you. Anything to keep you calm has my vote, too. Sending hugs.

@buffythevampireslayer and @bridgiebee82 thank you so much <3 that's just the type of support and reassurance I needed.

@mdfarmchick that really does help actually, those type of thoughts keep me grounded.
  • @stephanie309 I'm so sorry for your loss. This rainbow baby will hopefully bring you and your family so much joy. You're in my prayers. I hope your appointment tomorrow goes well. Please keep us updated. We do have an amazingly supportive group of ladies in our PGAL threads. I'm glad your nurse was able to help you feel better. 💜 sending you love
