Re: WTF Wednesday 2/2

  • So this is only kind of baby related: our architect has been working on our house plans since June. They were supposed to be done in October. WTF man. At the current rate, my home office is going to be in the shed so the baby has a room 😡 we even told the architect we’re pregnant (before we told family) hoping that would light a bit of a fire. It did not 😩 y’all it’s too hot in GA to have an office in a shed!

  • @laj0217 ughhhh that's so frustrating!! Hopefully it can get done before September, you know almost a year after they said they would be done!

I'm over here still without an appointment scheduled with my OB!! I've been calling like 10 times a day and leaving a voicemail every single day. If they don't get back to me by tomorrow morning, I think I'm just gonna show up at the office. It's not making me too excited about this whole process if it's going to be this challenging to get a hold of my doctor for my whole pregnancy...

  • @Amphibious22 that’s crazy! I can’t believe they haven’t set an appt even if it’s a few weeks out or something. Are you set on this OB? That would cause me too much stress.
  • @laj0217 I have Kaiser so I don't really have a choice. Everyone I know who's given birth through kaiser has had only positive things to say, and I've had really great experiences with other departments. Hopefully this is just a weird blip and it'll be better once I'm on the books and officially an OB patient.

  • @Amphibious22 are you calling the appointment line or the office itself?

  • @kboydbowman both! The appointment line is very helpful and they keep sending notes to the office but it's not getting me anywhere. I missed a phone call from the office on Monday and have called back like a million times but no answer and no call back either.

  • Interesting!  When I call the appointment line they make the actual appointment for me.

  • TW - gross dog stuff

Ended my no vomiting streak today because the dog randomly barfed on the floor right after I finished my lunch. It was so disgusting and I cannot handle dog bodily fluids. He doesn’t usually do stuff like this, but I think some of my chipotle burrito fell on the floor and he hoovered it up. Husband was not around so I had to deal. WTF?!
  • I have a UTI.  Which I expected - I have chronic urinary cystitis and basically have a UTI at all times unless I'm actively on antibiotics.  As my UTIs are nearly always asymptomatic (other than I pee a lot), I typically don't treat them, because
    a) I get a yeast infection 100% of the time from antibiotics, and
    b) See above about I'll immediately end up with another UTI (seriously, it takes less than a week).

However, the last time I got pregnant they wanted me on prophylactic antibiotics (low daily dose) after killing the primary UTI as maintenance.  Which I did, for awhile, but I basically ended up with a chronic yeast infection that was not responsive to treatment (either with fluconozale or the suppositories).  I eventually decided to just stop the antibiotics because I figured the yeast infection was having adverse impact on my vaginal pH and likely interfering with my ability to get pregnant again.  So I stopped the antibiotics, treated the current yeast infection, and boom, I'm pregnant the next month.

Well, surprise, surprise, when they ran my labs, I have another UTI.  The lab results also tell me what it's susceptible to and resistant to, and there are only two pregnancy safe medications that it's resistant to (I researched the options).

Well, the NP is trying to get me to take Bactrim (not one of the two options).  Trying to claim its pregnancy safe.

Which I already know....it's not. From Wiki,

"Its use during pregnancy is contraindicated, although it has been placed in Australian pregnancy category C.[13] Its use during the first trimester (during organogenesis) and 12 weeks prior to pregnancy has been associated with an increased risk of congenital malformations, especially malformations associated with maternal folic acid deficiency (which is most likely related to the mechanism of action of co-trimoxazole) such as neural tube defects such as spina bifida, cardiovascular malformations (e.g. Ebstein's anomaly), urinary tract defects, oral clefts, and club foot in epidemiological studies.[13] Its use later on during pregnancy also increases the risk of preterm labour (odds ratio: 1.51) and low birth weight (odds ratio: 1.67).[17][18] Animal studies have yielded similarly discouraging results.[3]"

There is absolutely no way in hell I will take that.  I'd rather deal with the UTI.  Sent her an email stating I'm only willing to take one of the two pregnancy-safe medications that the culture shows as susceptible to (one is an injectible, but I'm willing to do that), but I will not take the Bactrim.

    Waiting on a response...

  • @kboydbowman Can you talk with a doctor? I’m glad you are advocating for yourself.
  • @Amphibious22 Wow! That’s awful.  I can’t believe you haven’t been able to get an appointment set up.  That would absolutely drive me up a wall.

  • @magnolia209 I'm in the middle of "arguing" with the NP via email.  If that doesn't work, I will contact my OB directly and see what she says.

  • @kboydbowman
Yikes! I’m so sorry you’re dealing with all that. Stick to your guns and go with what you’re comfortable with. Is this a new provider for you or do they know your history?
  • My OB knows my hx.  Doubt the NP does.

  • oh my goodness that sounds so stressful for you all!

@laj0217 would you keep baby in your beedroom for a few months rather than moving to the shed? We found we felt less anxious when our DD was in our room & she stayed there for about a year.
  • @wiseh yes that’s the plan initially, but I do video therapy sessions, so I’ll have to make sure there’s blank wall behind me and not a crib/changing table/etc. the rooms so small I’m worried that may be hard to do.
  • This same day even! Nice!
