GTKY- What is your favorite thing about your career?
I’m a SAHM and am just grateful for the time I have with my kids. Even when they exasperate me to death.
Upcoming Appointments: 12 week ultrasound a week from today, NIPT results should be coming in this week or early next at the latest
How are you feeling?: pretty good other than the occasional morning dry heave.
Rants/Raves: why can’t nurses ever give you a straight answer when you send a MyChart message? I sent a message asking if I should schedule a 12 week appointment to coincide with my 12 week u/s and she responded to let me know I had a 16 week appointment scheduled (I know) and that if I have concerns or if there are any big changes I can be seen sooner. Why can’t you just tell me yes or no??
Questions: Do you all have 12 week OB appointments? I mostly just care about checking on baby so I don’t feel that strongly about being seen by my doctor but hopefully I’m not missing something important. You’d think I’d remember this since it’s not my first but I don’t 🤦🏻♀️
GTKY- What is your favorite thing about your career? I do occupational therapy so it’s hard to pick a favorite. Just being able to help improve people’s quality of life is so rewarding.

Hi @coco2787 I had my first OB appointment at 9 weeks and then they said everything looked fine so they would see me around week 16. So I don’t have a 12 week appointment either
Upcoming Appointments: MFM on Thursday 2/3, 12 week US on Wednwsday 2/9
How are you feeling?: exhausted and irrationally annoyed at everything.
Rants/Raves: I dropped some windshield washer fluid of to my best friend today, and her 8 year old daughter walked me to my car and held my hand the whole way to make sure I didn't slip on the ice. 🥰
Questions: What if I dont want to have the NIPT or NT scan? Are there tests I can decline, even though I'm considered high-risk? I just want my babies healthy, and I think being told they may have this or that will send me spiraling into depression/anxiety and I haven't felt that way in years.
GTKY- What is your favorite thing about your career? When that one kid who really struggles with everything academically has a light bulb go off, and then she takes over the class discussion and helps everyone. I just sat at my desk and let her do her thing. It was awesome to see her jump in and run around the room helping everyone when she usually struggles academically. She was in her glory, and I loved seeing her feel successful. 💕
Upcoming Appointments: in a week or so for the first round of blood tests
How are you feeling?: emotional, lots of heartburn, still a bit nauseous but I think I'm getting to the other side of first trimester things.
Rants/Raves: I'm very stressed about getting my docs and appts arranged between two different countries. Each one wants like a full pregnancy plan and it's harder than I though.
Questions: when did/do you start feeling a connection with the baby?
GTKY- What is your favorite thing about your career? I lost my business during the pandemic, now I'm pregnant and my husband has a demanding new venture. I don't think i will have a career for a while. I've gone through all the phases, and im still not sure how I feel about it.
@bridgiebee82 you can decline any test you want. I wouldn’t skip something like say the anatomy scan, just because sometimes anatomical defects can/should be fixed in the womb or immediately after birth and if an issue isn’t found until birth it could affect babies’ ability to get the care they need.

@rikiteacup hello, and welcome!! So sorry if you posted last week and I missed it. Glad to have you here! Are you on Zofran or anything? Mine isn't that severe, but I found some double ginger Tummy Drops on Amazon that work wonders for me!
@ashamarie2 I'm sorry for the episode this morning! Hopefully those are short lived for you.
@mdfarmchick So so glad the meds are helping! Hopefully your symptoms trail off soon. I'm convinced being a SAHM is one of the hardest jobs!
@coco2787 Communication in health portals is always so vague, I feel! Sorry for the frustration. Are you going to call the office for a real answer? I have a 12-week ultrasound with my RE (he does them at 6, 9 and 12 weeks just to monitor the pregnancy viability) and then I'll "graduate" from his care. It's not a real appointment, just a scan. Then I have a 12-week appointment with my OB to establish care next Friday. I'm not sure if a real appointment at 12 weeks is normal or not Sorry to not be much help there.
@bridgiebee82 You can decline anything you want! I would just have a genuine conversation with your OB about the tests and your concerns. Many insurances don't cover NIPT anyway, so it's a common one to decline.
@hola_knotties I'm sorry if you mentioned previously, but will you be moving at some point during your pregnancy, or why the need for two sets of appointments?

GTKY- What is your favorite thing about your career? I operate as a contract worker for two different groups doing communications/PR/community relations. I get to work from home on my own schedule, and say no to the projects I don't want. It suits our family so well, I can't ever imagine going back to an office!
You can totally decline @bridgiebee82 Today we did the NT scan first, and then the doctor came in and reviewed everything and told me about the NIPT and that she recommended it for me but I had to opt into it and if I had said no, that would have been that!
@coco2787 I have what would basically be a 12 week appointment tomorrow at 11w5d for my NT scan and NIPT bloodwork. After that I’ll go in monthly but I may not get another scan until 20 weeks. I think it depends on whether you are doing first trimester testing.
@bridgiebee82 I think you can decline anything you want. My doctor was just like “this is the menu of options that I have to offer you” vs. this is what you must do. Do what makes sense for you!
ho@hola_knotties for me it was when I could feel movement, but I know a lot of people who felt it right away. I think I was connected to the idea of the baby before I was connected to the actual baby, if that makes any sense.

Questions:
GTKY- What is your favorite thing about your career? I’m completely different in my personal and professional lives. In my personal life I’m like a silly sort of flaky person who floats about and is spontaneous, my husband calls me a chaos muppet. In my professional life I’m running a major program and telling everyone what to do. I like making decisions and solving big problems. Mostly I just like flexing both sides of myself.
@bridgiebee82 you can decline if you want. The NIPT is more of a, you may need further testing rather than a strict diagnosis. You know your family history and your husband’s so you can also kind of narrow down what you would even be a risk for from that.
@aukeev tired, nauseous and happy sounds very familiar. I hope your appointment Monday goes well.
@hola_knotties for me it usually feels real once I start feeling baby kicks. Otherwise, it’s not that I’m not connected as it is that it is sometimes hard to grasp before I feel the baby swimming around. I hope you can sort out the two different plans. That sounds complicated.
@coco2787, I don’t have a lot of help because I’m high risk so I don’t know what are considered normal appointments, but I seem to remember 8 weeks and 12 weeks with my first two. I think that the nurse’s answer was a total cop out. How annoying.
@bridgiebee82 I would have the conversation with your doc for sure! If it’s not something you want then I would absolutely say so.
@ashamarie2 at your desk?! Oh no. Sorry it happened at all, but doubly sorry it happened THERE!
@coco2787 my OB group does appointments every four weeks, so I’ll have one at 13w1. I think a 12 week appointment would have just been luck of the draw for me unless they saw a specific need for it.
@hola_knotties two plans seems like far too much brainwork. Heck, one plan seems like too much brainwork.
Upcoming Appointments: blood draw Wednesday for NIPT, appointment on 2/23
How are you feeling?: Heartburn is better, but not gone. Crying at weird things has sort of started.
Rants/Raves: rave first! I’ve been lurking the BF thread hard and I went to that aero pump website and am VERY pleased with the options they say I qualify for! Rant: I did not sleep very well at all last night.
Questions: maybe this is not a question that anyone can answer for me, but I’m gonna ask it anyway: is an at home Doppler worth it?
GTKY- What is your favorite thing about your career? When an employee I placed transfers to their placement company’s payroll. I love it when our employees transition anyway, but especially when it’s someone I’ve struggled to find the right spot for, and they finally find their place where they can succeed, it is SUCH a great feeling.
@mangoandguava there are a lot of mixed opinions on home Dopplers so I’ll just share my experience. I got one to use my last pregnancy after several losses and even though I got weekly scans in first tri my anxiety would be spiking by the next day. From about 9 weeks on I could find the HB at home and would listen for a few seconds and turn it off. For me, it was a huge help for my sanity. I’ve been using it again this pregnancy as well. Some people don’t want to use one at home because if they can’t find baby they’re afraid they’ll spiral, which is a valid concern. Whenever I tell people about using a Doppler at home my advice is to know yourself- will it bring you peace of mind or will it increase your anxiety?
Also, I’ll add my doctor knows and is ok with it from a safety standpoint. If I don’t find baby within a minute or two I turn it off and try again later. I also have an OB that will see me any time so if I ever had an issue I would be able to go in for a check.

Team: Finding out - looks like we will be waiting for an anatomy scan instead of blood work.
Upcoming Appointments: 2/18
How are you feeling?: Lately, I've been feeling really crappy for a lack of better words. Looks like I have a sinus infection or the start of rhinitis... (Negative for COVID, flu, & strep). This has taken a lot out of me. Last night was the worst night I've had so far, which led to excessive vomitting... (I think I had gotten too hungry) I just sobbed on my pillow going to bed that it was so unmanagable since I cannot take any decongestants right now. We are also having a HUGE winter storm inpact us here in Central Illinois (20" of snow and a 1/2" of ice!) and although I don't want to go to school later in the year, I wouldn't mind a surprise day or two off of work right now.
Rants/Raves: Still haven't gotten to see my parents due to them being COVID positive. I want to share the news in person, but dang it has been a long ~2 weeks waiting for them to be healthy again. My mom was in a terrible car accident in October that has her re-learning to use the left side of her body. I'm thankful that she did not get this virus sooner as she probably would've had another long hospital stay. And thankful that their symptoms have been mild after getting vaccinated.
Questions: Somewhat serious/somewhat rhetorical. How do I get my husband to understand that I'm not being mean/grouchy on purpose? Sometimes I just feel like I have an out-of-body experience when these mood swings hit and he takes it very personally. This has even been before pregnancy while PMSing - I've tried explaining that it seems out of my control!
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your career? I'll be honest. Teaching is HARD right now and has been for almost 3 school years. It's a lot and sometimes it's hard to have favorite parts of the gig. Right now, I'm thankful that I get to spend most of my third trimester at home during summer. I couldn't imagine preparing for a maternity sub while also preparing to still teach during the school year. I get to separate the two. When I first found out I was due at the beginning of the year, I panicked - but now it is looking better and better. Also, on the topic of summer, I love that I will get that time each year with my kiddos to makes some awesome memories.
If you made it through all of this you deserve an award. This is a big brain dump for me.
@brittanynmorris I feel the same way about teaching. I'm so thankful I'll be in my 3rd trimester in the summer because even though I'll be hot and uncomfortable, at least I won't have to make sub plans.
Team: Finding out! (NIPT was received by the lab today!)
Upcoming Appointments: boutique u/s on 2/17, 16 wk appt on 3/3.
How are you feeling?: nausea seems to be getting better. Aversions are still ruling my life (the biggest ones are my kitchen and my dog).

Questions: none
GTKY- What is your favorite thing about your career? I'm a financial advisor, and it's so rewarding to help people navigate the complexities of their finances. All of my clients are so grateful. It gives me the warm fuzzies to lift that burden from them.

Team: Finding Out! ASAP
How I’m Feeling: Maybe through the worst of it? I’m cautiously optimistic. I’ve been coughing and dealing with a little congestion because I got Covid. It’s been really mild and my temp never got over 100° (Mostly under 99.5°,) so I haven’t had reason for concern. I did lay lower than usual and was off my phone in terms of communication, more the last few days. My pregnancy symptoms have had me feeling more sick, but I feel like they are maybe leveling out a bit. Starting today, I’m trying to spread out my Zofran doses more. Normally I take it 4 times a day, but seriously needed it. Now it’s been a few days since I threw up last and most days haven’t been as terrible.. the nausea has been waves more than constant now. I hope I can get down to only taking it twice or three times. Then I might be able to stretch it through the week and better evaluate if I can get by without it. I don't think I could have started pacing it much sooner.
GTKY: I mostly nanny, babysit, and volunteer in kids class settings. Especially Preschool Age. It's so rewarding to see them learn things. I can't wait for that to be something I can enjoy with my own baby.
Update: I found another box of Zofran under a pamphlet in the paper bag! Such a relief that I can take smaller doses for longer! Especially with some social activities coming up that I will need energy for!
@meagan822 I don’t mean to be a downer but if you can refill the prescription you might want to… I know most people are fine by the end of the first trimester but I usually think it’s better and then it gets worse for me and then with #3 it came back ☹️ later. Just so you have the option?? I dunno. Take it with a grain of salt. Also, Zofran is nice to have around for car sickness 😝 maybe that’s just me but my OB was the one who recommended keeping it for things like car sickness or a stomach bug.
@mdfarmchick Okay, thanks! That sounds like solid advice that may apply to my scenario. I would rather be able to have it. This time I’ll make sure it’s the kind to swallow, not dissolve in my mouth.🤢 And that way I can carry it around and take as needed. I haven’t had car sickness before, but I think it may be more likely while pregnant and my family lives 4 hours away, so when we go down to announce, I definitely would like some then!😅
@meagan822 I don’t have a lot of car sickness unless I’m in like the third row and as the mom now that doesn’t happen often. But I definitely do feel more carsick while pregnant. I hope it’s all precautionary for you and you don’t need any of it. 😁
@mdfarmchick That makes sense! Thank you for those well wishes! My husband and I share a car, so I’m home a lot except for evenings and weekends (and trying to be even more right now,😅) but even at 5.5 weeks pregnant, when my nausea was still only in waves for up to an hour or so, I did feel a lot worse on the 1 hour drive to my husband’s family. So even if it’s more psychological or precautionary, it sounds great for a 4 hour drive!

Questions: maybe this is not a question that anyone can answer for me, but I’m gonna ask it anyway: is an at home Doppler worth it?
GTKY- What is your favorite thing about your career? When an employee I placed transfers to their placement company’s payroll. I love it when our employees transition anyway, but especially when it’s someone I’ve struggled to find the right spot for, and they finally find their place where they can succeed, it is SUCH a great feeling.

that place where you can still remember dreaming?
That's where I will always love you.
That's where I'll be waiting."

How are you feeling?: nausea seems to be getting better. Aversions are still ruling my life (the biggest ones are my kitchen and my dog).
Rants/Raves: RAVE - tomorrow DS is turning 2! I'm excited to celebrate. It will be very low key. Just presents and cake with my inlaws.
Questions: none
GTKY- What is your favorite thing about your career? I'm a financial advisor, and it's so rewarding to help people navigate the complexities of their finances. All of my clients are so grateful. It gives me the warm fuzzies to lift that burden from them.
Baby is the size of a Cherry (tomorrow will be strawberry!)

Okay, thanks!
