Re: WTF Wednesday 1/26

  • Putting this is WTF Wednesday - because, ugh wtf:
I had my first US today, at 5w5d based on my counting. Doc scheduled an early one because I technically don't have a LMP logged (we got pregnant quickly after IUD removal). I understand that the techs can't tell you anything... but as a FTM, first pregnancy, this was not what I was expecting at all. They didn't even show me anything... Before we started, he did tell me - "the only thing I will be able to tell you is if the findings indicate any emergent concern". True to form, all he told me was, "there is no emergent concern". Which, great, I will take it... but still.. Now I am to wait anywhere between a few hours, up to a WEEK for them to get back to me with results and images. I am feeling really frustrated and sad about the whole experience. The tech was incredibly kind - but man - more waiting!? I just have a terrible feeling about it. Has anyone had a similar experience?

  • @runsonanxiety Ugh. That's gotta be incredibly frustrating! At 5w5d they honestly wouldn't have been able to show you much (yet) in way of a baby, just a yolk sac and possibly a tiny dot that is the embryo. That said, I would have been annoyed that I took so much time out of my day to be told basically nothing. When will your next scan be?
    DD 10/2019
  • @trapperkeeper87 I have no idea. Maybe once they review, they will tell me?
  • I have had 3 days where I thought morning/night sickness was gonna kill me, then today. Nothing. It’s a wtf and PTL at the same time!
  • Someone at work threw out my Chinese leftovers from yesterday. It’s legit the only thing that I was looking forward to all morning and then I found it in the trash after looking in the fridge. WTF?!
  • @mnmomma84 before I left for work, boy person asked me what kind of pudding to make (I had wanted pudding).  I said butterscotch.  I was very sad to come home and he had not made pudding. :(

  • Everyone in my house is sleeping. I was so tired at like 8pm and was looking forward to going to bed early. Now here I am…not falling asleep. Wtf???
  • Rude! Asks what kind and no follow through?

@kboydbowman I would be PISSED lol
  • @runsonanxiety did they let you even see the screen while doing the scan?
I understand ultrasound techs can’t say anything, but I would have expected you to be able to watch the screen and get a picture.
Also, I’m a crazy person and would message my OB to get results faster lol
  • @blanket_girl I have informed him that there shall be pudding when I get home from work or I might have to eviscerate him with a spoon

  • @mokay19 No!! They didn’t let me see the screen. They did both a tummy US and a transvaginal and I saw nothing. I’m going crazy and it’s only been 24 hours. I think you’re right - I might send a message, it can’t hurt.
  • Ok, so in case you didn't read my intro, short recap: I work in a maximum security men's prison.  My "office" is part of a cube farm and we each only have one drawer that locks, which I usually have to use for confidential stuff.

Well, someone on the inmate cleaning crew apparently stole my wireless earbuds off my desk sometime in the last two days.  They're going to shake down the inmates, but I don't hold high hopes for them being returned.

  • I’m obsessed with banana pudding from Magnolia bakery - it has like other ingredients in it like um I dno cake-like something in it and it’s soooooo good.
  • I’m super annoyed. My ob’s office finally called in the order for my NT scan and now there are no available appointments. The only availability is at an different location that is 45 minutes away from me and I really do not feel like going all the way there. I hate how this happens, like how can you not have enough appointments for your patients? It’s so frustrating.
  • ...my OB is an hour from where I live.

@kboydbowman my midwife (closest location in the US) was 1.5 hours from me for my last 2. We've moved so it's only a half hour now.
  • Yea, all my appointments are 45 minutes away at the closest! It’s a pain in the butt with work on appointment days

Bleh. My ob, mfm (where ultrasounds are), and my hospital for delivery are all within 6 minutes of my house. On purpose. So I’m not pleased about traveling 45 minutes for the NT scan. I think I will just keep calling every day until they get a cancellation or squeeze me in haha.

ETA that also, my MFM has three different offices that are all within 20 mins of my house and none of them has any availability, which is kind of crazy I feel like. Like if they are that booked up it seems like they have too many patients or something. The only option is this office that is 45 minutes away in a different county.
  • @theblondebump That’s annoying!  Hopefully you can manage to snag an appointment somewhere closer!

my OB is 45 minutes away. We could have found somewhere closer, but I started going there when I was only 15 minutes away and didn’t want to switch doctors after we moved because I really like the one I have.  It’s annoying especially in the winter when it’s snowing and the roads are shit, but so feel like it’s worth it to stay with a doctor that I like and who already knows my history really well.
  • @beccaneu that makes sense, I’d probably feel the same way with a doctor I already knew and liked! Same here with the snow, it’s a big part of why I don’t want to go so far. It’s been snowing multiple times a week here and I really hate driving in snow or bad weather. Bleh. I also am normally home with our nanny, even if I’m working or something, so I don’t loveee being 45 mins away in the event there was a problem. It’s pretty rare for me to leave DD for a few hours at a time (45 mins there, ultrasound, 45 mins back). Anyway, fingers crossed there’s a cancellation close to me!
  • @theblondebump That’s super annoying! I do hope something opens up closer. I feel like my office was super busy too. And from hearing what others here are saying, all offices seem extra busy. Do you think there is a baby boom? Luckily my OB only has an office on the 2nd floor and 4th floor of the same building. I asked if she was too busy when I booked my appointment and the receptionist said no, the OBs all have a maximum number of pregnant patients that they will see at a time. But that doesn’t really help your situation as the NIPT is with the MFM.
  • @theblondebump I don't know what COVID cases are like where you are, but I know during our recent omicron peak many places were severely understaffed because almost everybody working was testing positive. Healthcare workers have been hit hard. Maybe not the case, but it could explain scheduling issues.

OK, so between my request for pudding the other day and him attempting to carb by proxy since he's doing keto, the boy person has decided that he must make me all the pudding in the world. And he wants to make really bizarre flavor combinations, like pistachio in banana. I'm like, no dude, that's not how cravings and aversions work at all. What I like today I may hate in 2 days, so how about make one pudding at a time and wait until I ask for it lol.

  • So today was "give the dogs their heartworm medication," which is always an ordeal because they HATE it.  No amount of "hide the pill in X" works.  Only solution we've found is to gind them up and sneak them in to wet food.  Which is what we did this time, but they were still being super resistant so it also ended up with cheese and eggs and other things mixed in to try to tempt them.  Got them to eat about half of it and then we were going to save the rest of it for their breakfast (along the lines of "you don't get anything else to eat until you finish your dinner" sort of thing).

Well, Gloria (the Great Pyrenees) decided all of that did not sit well with her stomach and puked THE BIGGEST PUKE I HAVE SEEN IN MY LIFE.  I went to try to clean it but the smell of it had me near barfing, so I asked the boy person to do it.  He bitched and complained and said I was being dramatic and was just generally being a shithead.  Some days I hate him so much.

  • @kboydbowman that’s why we do the annual heart worm shots! I like avoiding the monthly annoyance.
  • I didn't know there were annual shots! How much do they run?

  • @kboydbowman We do these too! The pups have to be at least 1 year old. We do give the monthly NexGard pill for flea/tick, which tastes like a beef treat, so my dog loves that. But we do the annual shot for heartworm treatment. I'll have to look at my most recent vet bill tonight and let you know! But I believe it was cheaper than the monthly Trifexis we had him on, which we basically had to push down his throat because no amount of cheese or hotdogs would make him swallow it.
  • @kboydbowman they offer both a 6 month and 12 month version. I believe for our 12 month it was only like $150 per dog (my dogs are 60 and 90lbs)… hard to say the price for sure because I got it done with all their other vaccines.
Also, it might vary per location so could be more pricy in California!
  • So asking for that at my next vet visit! A yearly shot would be sooo much easier!!
  • My doxie is having a flare up of IVDD now (a disease that affects his spine) and so he’s on crate rest. My 10 month old learned how to open his crate and let him out! I’m like nooooo. Also, he’s on 4 medications twice a day, it’s a lot, but luckily he loves food and pill pockets, so it’s easy to give them to him. The things we do for our dogs though…
